i wonder how long ago Spotify first started?

I even started an LLC last year for all this and will eventually get trademarks for my company and artist name.
I have every intention of distributing my music directly to fans through my own website one day. Why give up any percentage when I can sell direct and pocket it all? But that's like 10-15 years off.
Yeah, digital streaming royalties are a joke, so I don't mind a 9% cut. The reason I want to secure all these things now is because if, by some miracle, something was to blow up in the coming years I will already have everything in place to secure my legal control. Also, I intend on leaving the royalties to my sister if I pass before her, and after we are both gone I am going to have the royalties pass to some non-profits (i.e. Epilepsy Foundation of America).

Well, you're in it a lot deeper than I am. I just filed for copyright and am now looking for a perfunctory service to get on streaming platforms. I don't think I've read anything negative about CDBaby. Honestly, streaming services' profit potential is so absurdly low that I'm not too worried about revenue %. I figure if there ever comes a time when I can make decent money from streaming, I'll be in a position to find other doors for financial gain.
For instance, I want to get a song onto the Top 40 before I die, but you can't do that if you only distribute through Bandcamp. I grew up listening to Rick Dees Weekly Top 40, so it has always been a dream of mine to get a play on there.
So like, if a DJ found your stuff on Bandcamp and played it at a club. You would get $0 if you didn't register your royalties yourself.
Bandcamp doesn't distribute to Apple/Spotify or collect royalties. Yes, it is a viable option for selling your music but if you don't register your performance rights yourself you don't get paid if you were to perform your music in a club/venue.

Basically, you'd have to manage it all yourself, whereas CDBaby has a onestop setup where it'll take care of all that on the backend.
How’s any of that different from Bandcamp? From what I have seen, they are a shining beacon in the dark.
