I’m convinced the Blue Ridge will be an outlier in regards to climate change. The more the world burns the greener we get: it’s an oasis I tell ya! 
I’ve made my mind up that sooner or later there’s a good chance I’ll probably move to the Blue Ridge.
Just like Washington, people build houses with no AC. I get intoxicated by elevation change anyways and love rowing a 6-spd up those roads.

We keep the central air at around 72 to 74... mostly because the house is huge, has 12-foot ceilings, and my home office (where I practically live) is on the second floor where it's then warmer than that (but comfy). At night we let it get warmer.
In winter we keep the heat around 68. At night we let it get cooler (62-ish).
I'm just delighted we have central air now (since 2018). Before we had 5-6 window AC units around the house, which meant closed doors everywhere, LOUD machine cranking out cool air in just that room, and a high electric bill anyway. Once we realized we had to get new furnaces, we had the two central air units installed too. Best decision ever.
It's quieter. It's more efficient. Every room is delightful. And without those ugly window units, we have almost no bugs getting into the house. We ALWAYS had bugs in the house all summer, getting in through the not-hermetically-sealed window units.
It helps almost no windows/sides of our house sit in the actual sun at all. Very fortunate on the layout here. Just our bedroom seems to get semi-direct sun (because it's above the porch roofs and above the short dogwood tree on the side of the house).
All in all, a nice setup and comfy, happy people inside the house.

Our house sits in sun for most of the day and on hot days it never gets below 80 anyways. The air just runs all day and barely keeps up.
I like it warmer so I don’t have to listen to the air turn on...turn off...turn on..
