It had a good premise, but I didn't much care for the execution. Felt too dragged out and not particularly exciting even when comparing it to its peers, which had fundamentally less fantastic premises. In short, it's a let-down.
Better than Blade Runner

More than enough room for Young Guns.

I think the best part of this movie, besides the special effects, would be the 'whodunit' bit to it. Trying to piece together who's a Thing, and when, is interesting.
Boy when I get on a binge.....watching The Thing (1982) now. Probably the greatest movie to generic name ratio I've ever seen.
Yeah, it's a flashback thing but isn't great.
It ignores continuity.

Avoid the made-for-TV movie Bates Motel as well. It's more a spinoff using character names and is total garbage.

The fourth one is the prequel, yes?

I also hear Psycho 3 is good as well. What are odds, considering how Hitchcock had no hand in them.
anyway, on the topic of sequels I watched Psycho II. Surprisingly...pretty decent, actually. It played out more like a drama then a slasher movie though.
