Spring Breakers is irresponsible. Maybe the director thought he was writing up some real biting social commentary that was super topical but in the end, it's just a big thud. That big thud appeals to the type of characters in the film, the ones being made fun of. The idiots. The clueless, misguided kids. So, how smart is the audience. Guess we'll find out. I'm not trying to be lofty, I think my original point got lost somewhere and now I'm trying to find it because it's obvious I can't seem to make it anymore.


Irresponsible. Images and video of animal cruelty in excess. IN EXCESS. 


EXCESS. Habitual. Obsessive. Bombardment. Trying to make a point. Raise awareness. Commentary on the state of affairs.

What if someone skinned your cat alive for 2 full hours and video taped it and then put it on the internet to raise awareness, or to act as a social commentary on the state of affairs in this world. How bad people are. How stupid. How heartless. (?)

Would that be kosher?

Now I can shut up because I've enjoyed Friday the 13th movies, and those are about murder. 

The difference is, Friday the 13th movies are exactly what they say they are. Spring Breakers is not. It's a fib. 

Sadistic plops of animal cruelty videos are about raising awareness, but the effect it can have can give sadists a nice time and more fuel.Sadists who watch, and possibly sadists who post because they are in denial about the factt that they enjoy it. Hurt something before I love it so I know what love is.

Clearly it's a sloppy attempt at a morality tale. It's not the exact thing as "raising awareness" to protect animals and I've come to expect the loss of translation. Do I really have to keep going, or can I get some help here?

Harmony Korine always makes films that exploit. They're mean and nasty. For whatever reason, his light seasoning of morality subtext gets him a get out of jail free card because people wanna sop his filth up with a bisquit and not feel bad about liking the excess. Hey, that's fine. I was in walmart today for 20 minutes and I almost strangled myself with my own hands. It's fine! I'm quite aware of idiocracy....

Someone continuously assaults other people's senses with animal cruelty images and video...but it's ok because it's the good fight.

 Employing a bit of creativity can avoid having no taste or class. If I haven't made a point yet, I doubt I ever will. Probably better to just move on and agree to disagree.

But one more try at keeping it simple:

Harmony Korine: If I keep it nasty, filthy and morally corrupt on volume 10, people will respond and become aware of this young society we live in where values are trashed (as he sneaks panty shots at every opportunity and wastes money on a bad idea stretched out over an hour)


Obssessive animal rights sadist: If I post enough animal abuse that will turn stomachs, people will be aware of cruelty and post more of the same, meanwhile doing nothing but spreading unnecessary stress and ugliness.

People are addicted to anger and stress. It's a fact.
