Our sellers *had* to lower their price because the appraisal came back lower than the price we had agreed on with them. Couldn't get a mortgage for more than the appraisal number, so they had to either decrease the price or walk away from the whole deal. And since we were the only truly interested party at the time, they lowered the price below what we'd offered and they had already accepted.

It felt like getting the house with a coupon.
Knob and tube wiring? Especially if someone's been tinkering with it? I'd hope your inspector will mention stuff like that since it's a huge safety issue. Huge. Trust my electrical engineer husband, who had to rewire much of our large Victorian after we moved in due to remaining knob and tube and also just piss-poor wiring by the previous owner, a contractor who should have known better but whose skill set did NOT include electrical or plumbing issues.
Basically, the house is still using the original 2 wires setup, and they just replaced all the outlets with 3 prongs without replacing the wiring. As with most house modifications it was done by idiots.
yeah, but electrical could be an issue. are there exposed wires or something? or you looking at an archaic glass fuse box that needs to be upgraded to a breaker box? still would be worth asking your agent about it. if they say no, it doesn't break the contract I don't think. inspection may list it anyway.
But I definitely learned today that it is not even close to my definition of "move in ready".
Like...I can sand and finish the floors myself. I can insulate the attic myself. There's a lot that I can do and want to do because I'll learn.

Yeah if it's not in the disclosure before the offer, pretty standard to ask for the price to be shaved down to at least somewhat compensate.

We just got back from our inspection.
