Bird update: after several days of deliberately parking away from the house and coming in the back, the bird appears to have noticed and changed their behavior. When I drove by the house today he was not in front, but when I came in through the back he was already waiting and zipping around. He seems to be spending more time in the backyard than he was earlier in the week, too.
I call it The Splatter Box!
