Sometimes, when I drive across the desert in the middle of the night, with no other cars around, I start imagining: What if there were no civilization out there? No cities, no factories, no people? And then I think: No people or factories? Then who made this car? And this highway? And I get so confused I have to stick my head out the window into the driving rain---unless there's lightning, because I could get struck on the head by a bolt.
As much as I might complain about the Northwest it is the best place in the United States. If you try to disagree be aware of the fact that I'll be saying "la-la-la" with my index fingers firmly pressed into my ear-holes. That how I do it here in Portland, ORegon.
where there is sun, there is heat where there is heat there is sweat where there is sweat there is a stink and where there is a stink there is air freshener and where there is air freshener there is arosol and where there is arosol there is global warming and where there is global warming there is sun....
That's an exaggeration, of course.
In April the rain starts letting up, and from May to September it's really quite beautiful and relatively dry. And BOY is it green (you know, plenty of watering going on the rest of the year).
At least that's how it goes here in Portland, ORegon.
And I'll take rain and gray here over the oppressive humidity of the summers and unbearable wind-chill of the winters where I used to live in Maryland.
