I somehow don't think it's James Taylor. I didn't think he was her ex already at that point in time, was he? I'd heard the Jagger possibility, but hadn't heard Kristofferson. (How do they know each other?) Didn't know about the auction. Fascinating!
that's the closest i've come to an answer in a long time..i mean about warren beatty being the subject on that song..

i don't think that it can't be mick because he does sing backup on the song...too obvious

thanks
morning everyone
And like Bob Woodward's Deep Throat, eventually this one will be revealed too.

But don't hold your breath waiting.
Other likely suspects are Mick Jagger (who sings backup on the song), Kris Kristofferson and Carly's ex-husband James Taylor.

She actually auctioned off the answer to this long-held secret a couple years ago, at an event raising money for services on Martha's Vineyard, where she has famously lived since the 1970s.

The high bid on the secret was $50,000.00. The winner was NBC executive Dick Ebersol. He is, theoretically, the only person outside of Simon's immediate family and closest circle of friends to know the answer for sure.

The only catch to the auction was that the winner was bound not to tell anybody else.
Song: You're So Vain. Originally sung by Carly Simon. Supposedly about Warren Beatty (at least, that's always been the urban legend)....
I have heard it, as well as the song Janet Jackson sampled it in (can't remember the title).
I remember that song.
i was going to answer the same way that holden did...

i love that song

and i think that brian is referring to a film called the madness of king george....
Slay, I haven't a clue what to make of your last shout.
Holden, yes I do. (And did no one else pick up on the reference there? HOW FRICKIN' OLD AM I???)
This hurricane is just....unreal. What a terrible disaster....

Check in, Southern MoFos!!!!
I stayed up 'til about 5.00am last night, there were three Altman films on Sky. The Long Goodbye was first on Sky Cinema, then I flicked over to Sky Movies 1 and Short Cuts was on, then straight after that was The Player. So far, those are my three favorite Altman films.
