The Shoutbox
You guys pay for DVR services?
Well if I ever find myself watching TV during the day, I'm in my room on my computer. Watching any countless number of re-runs (ex. Becker, Home Improvement, King of Queens, Yes Dear!, and Seinfeld). My DVR is reserved mostly for shows that I don't have the luxury of watching. But I hardly spend time in front of our HDTV now. The room with the Christmas tree is my favorite during winter.
Negative. I still only watch the shows I used to (excluding Heroes, which is new), just with no commercials. Also, no channel changing is needed. My DVR turns itself on and starts recording. The dual drive models can record two shows at once, or, you can use it normally while it records one show, but I never do that, as I pretty much never watch live TV at this point. Myself, I spend a lot less time in front of the TV since I got the DVR.
I only record a show if I know I'll be out of the house. If I'm there and miss the show, that's my own stupidity.
The thing is, though, you watch more television because of it. Remembering to turn to a certain channel at a certain time is a pain. There are any number of shows which are worth watching, but not worth making time in your schedule for.
I rent mine from the cable company, for 10 bucks per month. I look at it this way. For each hour of TV I would watch normally, I gain 20 minutes of free time. This fact, coupled with the freedom to watch m,y stuff whenever I want, is totally worth it to me.
DVR is the king of the home entertainment system.
I've been looking into DVR, but haven't sprung for it yet because I really don't watch enough television to justify dropping a couple hundred dollars.

And no, I haven't owned a VCR for a while now.
I love not having to schedule my life around TV. Oh, and no commercials? Da bomb, yo.
Yeah, I was working last night but magically was able to watch the shows hours after they aired.

Ala-ka-DVRam!
VCR? TiVO? Nothing, huh?
