I'm in the middle of applying for jobs. One remote job I applied to said they weren't going to have a formal interview and would instead base my employment on how well I complete certain tasks. I initially assumed I would be given an exam to take, but they instead sent me a cashier's check for $3,500 in the mail. The instructions were to cash it in at a bank, keep 18 percent of the money for commission, and deliver the remaining balance to a vendor in my area for "cryptocurrency purposes". I found this really suspicious since, out of all the applications I've ever submitted in my life, no company has never had me do something like that. Since I work full time, I had my Dad go to the bank the check supposedly came from, only for them to tell us it was a fake check. I then messaged the guy, told him his bank told us the check was fake, to reach out to his bank himself if he wants the money back, and not to contact me again. I then blocked his number and email.
