Re: The Movieforums Top 100 War Movies Countdown

Falling behind again. I'm going to rip through the pages a bit, reading/scanning most of what you fine people are saying.

Braveheart is a pretty good movie but it's been a very, very long time...

Re: The Movieforums Top 100 War Movies Countdown

Happy to see Patton so high up. It would have made my top 50. it's a great film with performances and obviously, especially, one extraordinary performance.

Re: The Movieforums Top 100 War Movies Countdown

The Longest Day is another great WW2 film with a huge cast. They really knew how to do it back in the sixties. Can't go wrong with Billy Wilder and William Holden. Er maybe you can: Sabrina. But...

Re: The Movieforums Top 100 War Movies Countdown

Glory is decent enough but I don't think it's great. That said I get why others might and understand it's popularity. Rome, Open City on the other hand had a guarantee spot on my list from the start....

Re: The Movieforums Top 100 War Movies Countdown

Another excellent film from Powell and Pressburger. It didn't make my list but that doesn't take away from the fact that these guys made great films and almost all are classics. Waltz with Bashir is...

Re: The Movieforums Top 100 War Movies Countdown

Argh falling behind here. Gone the the Wind is a movie I watched way way back in the early 2000s and haven't revisited since then. The Human Condition Trilogy is a masterpiece but my vote may or may...

Re: The Movieforums Top 100 War Movies Countdown

A couple of very good films. It's been a while since I watch either but I've especially been meaning to give Master and Commander another watch for sometime. Peter Weir is a great filmmaker and you...

Re: The Movieforums Top 100 War Movies Countdown

Two excellent films. Letters from Iwo Jima is probably tops for me for Eastwood directed films. Remember when this and Flags of our Fathers (nowhere near as good) came out in the same year? Busy year...

Re: The Movieforums Top 100 War Movies Countdown

Right on I had The General at #10 the third from my list to make it. Buster Keaton is a genius. This is one of my favourites of his (although they're all pretty damn good). And of course this is a...

Ballad of a Soldier is a good film but for me it's around the mid-tier for Soviet WW2 films - at least of the ones I've seen.

Yeah, I didn't really care for Hacksaw Ridge at all. I tend to like...

Re: The Movieforums Top 100 War Movies Countdown

Battle of Britain was pretty good. I went through a period of classic WW2 films a while back and this was one of them. I don't think it's great or anything but I'm happy with it here.

Hm. I feel...

I like Fail-Safe but not enough for a list. Does anyone remember the live televised version from way back? That was pretty good too. As mentioned before, regrettably I haven't seen the War and Peace...

A Matter of Life and Death is an excellent film and I think my #1 Powell and Pressburger. I thought about including it for a while but left it off because I just didn't feel it for my top 25 war...

Re: The Movieforums Top 100 War Movies Countdown

I don't think I've seen Mrs. Miniver but I've definitely seen Tropic Thunder. It's a lot of fun and while I didn't vote for it. It's a film about the war of making a film! And the war to win an...

But yeah these last two are okay I guess. I would give both a thumbs up and am fine with them being on the list. Nothing else to say really.

Re: The Movieforums Top 100 War Movies Countdown

I appreciated The Hill in its twisted, hot desert endless climb fun. That would not have been fun.

I think Zero Dark Thirty can be considered a war film. 21st century war. But that was a few pages...

Re: The Top of the Bleeping Obstacle: MoFo Top 100 War Movies Prelims!
