Re: What do you think of the movie Parasite (2019)?

The letters are such a good summation of the film's critique, though - the father reveals that he is effectively stuck in a hopeless situation for the rest of his days and the son dreams up a rescue...

Really? I thought him dying was kind of the whole point. He even spoils it during the opening narration ("in less than a year, I'll be dead") and even reminds you that the third act of the movie...

While we're at it, here's my review (https://www.movieforums.com/reviews/1356992-lucy.html). Needless to say, I *hated* this movie.

Re: 1917 (2019)

Even if it was literally one unbroken take, how else do they account for the fact that it does just cut to black when the protagonist gets knocked out about halfway through the film?

Re: The fate of 1917 at the oscars and how it was inevitable

On a fundamental level, they are pretty generic - one's a men-on-a-mission war movie, the other's a dysfunctional family drama. It is interesting to see the argument that they are shot generically...

That sense of redemption is still tempered by how we expect him to either fail or succeed at a great cost, especially considering that the previous films were about him ultimately getting away with...

In fairness, Wikipedia says it was originally planned for the Nintendo 64 but it ultimately ended up on GameCube.

I gave it one complete play-through - I didn't deliberately invoke sanity effects...

Do you think 1917 deserved Oscars Best Visual Effect over Endgame

Re: Do you think 1917 deserved Oscars Best Visual Effect over Endgame

I think 1917 won because it's arguably the least conspicuous use of VFX in the bunch, especially when you consider how it has to be integrated with the film's already-elaborate long takes. Compare...

Re: Oscars apart, which movie do you think made your year?

Assuming that "Oscars apart" means that anything that got nominated doesn't count, I think I'd give it to Portrait of a Lady on Fire.

I believe Eternal Darkness was on GameCube - at least, that's where I played it. I also liked it, though it definitely hews closer to the kind of survival horror shown in early Resident Evil games...

Decided to ditch The Witcher 3 because I finally got around to picking up Shadow Man on N64. This was a game that was obviously a source of morbid fascination during the N64's heyday - horror on a...

Gonna be boring and say Final Cut (and the even more boring ranking of the cuts would go Director, Workprint, Theatrical - unless there are any I've missed?)
