I think it might have to do with exposition. Movie fans are more exposed to foreign films from, say, France, Italy, Japan, China... than they are to films from Middle-Eastern countries. Why that is?...

To be fair, speaking from a quasi-US perspective, there's a general dismissal or ignorance about foreign films in general, as far as the general public goes so there's that.
