The Revenant's only flaw
I found The Revenant (2015) to be an awesome movie - great (simple) story, great acting, awesome scenery, awesome musical score.
But, could they really not find anyone better than Leonardo DiCaprio to star in it ? With a big budget like that ? A puny 15-yr-old-girl looking actor who can't act to save his life, to play a ***barbarian*** that hunts and stabs and endures Arctic temperatures ? Really ? Couldn't find someone more masculine and believable ? For the life of me, I cannot take that girly boy seriously. Every word out of his mouth and every one of his expressions/actions represented the only moments I had to dissociate from the movie screen to maintain my continued enjoyment of the movie. I'm talking about a great effort. P.S. I have watched it about 300 times now, and the amount of effort required doesn't decrease. You must think I'm nuts, yeah ? |

Sure do. Or maybe you're just a "pretty smart cookie".

Re: The Revenant's only flaw
I don't agree at all. Thought Di Caprio did a great job. It's the very fact that he's not some big hulk of a bloke that made him more vulnerable in his struggle.

Re: The Revenant's only flaw
I disagree with Leo winning the Oscar for that role but it was still good solid acting just not Oscar worthy in my opinion.
I love the scenes where he get's mauled by a bear, great filmmaking. I need to watch it a second time, some time. |
Re: The Revenant's only flaw
Well, we found the Trump supporter. ;)
DiCaprio is a great actor, so shut up. Though I agree he should have gotten the Oscar for Wolf of Wall Street over The Revenant, but it was still a physically and emotionally draining performance, but he went the internalized/subtle route and put his body through the wringer. It was a great performance, but not as obviously complex as his other performances, it's a bit more subtle, but it's solid acting either way. Tom Hardy got the showier role, and even he knocked it out of the park. |
Re: The Revenant's only flaw
There was almost a version where Samuel L. Jackson played Glass and it would be directed by Park Chan-wook. I still wish we had got that version instead.

Re: The Revenant's only flaw
This terrible movie wishes that was its only flaw.

Re: The Revenant's only flaw
I think DiCaprio stopped looking like a "girly boy" a couple of decades ago.

Re: The Revenant's only flaw
I never thought he looked like one. Besides, why is that bad?
DiCaprio in The Revenant was very good. I wouldn't say Oscarworthy, but it's nice that he finally got one even though he had to sweat his ass off for it. I wouldn't give it for The Wolf Of Wall Street either though, my pick would be The Aviator. |
