Identify the Common Character Game

This is a pretty simple concept: the names of three actors are posted, and the next poster must identify the role or character they all have in played either in movies or on television. For example, if someone should post Val Kilmer, George Clooney, and Michael Keaton, the next poster would post Batman (or Bruce Wayne), and then list three more actors that also have a role in common.

Okay, I will begin with an easy one:

Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Downey Jr., and Benedict Cumberbatch

Here's the answer – maybe a bit dense and a bit of a trick question:

WARNING: spoilers below
They've all played 'versions' of the Doctor in Doctor Who:

Jayston plays the Valeyard, a court prosecutor, in The Trial of a Time Lord. The name means "doctor of law" and it's revealed that the character is a manifestation of the Doctor's dark side.

In Amy's Choice Toby Jones's Dream Lord is a similar character, embodying the Doctor's negative thoughts.

in The Next Doctor, David Morrissey's Jackson Lake is not in fact the Doctor, but believes he is after his mind is flooded with the Doctor's memories. When the Doctor meets him he is (at first) convinced that he's talking to one of his future incarnations.

You really have been stumping me! I know all three actors have played Sherlock Holmes, but since he was already mentioned, I was wondering if there was another role you had in mind? I thought it might be Dracula, but can't find any record of John Neville playing him although the other two have. Since Sherlock Holmes is a correct answer (though maybe not the one you wanted) i will go:

Alan Arkin, Bud Cort, Viggo Mortensen

Yes, it's Sherlock Holmes :p. It does get a bit knotty with Roxburgh as he's played Holmes, Moriarty and Dracula :D.

Jeremy Brett played Dr. Watson once, opposite Charlton Heston's Holmes, on stage.
