I'm not exactly looking forward to this, I just figured this trailer needed to be shared with all of you.

Looks absolutely dreadful, not once did I laugh at any of those attempts at 'comedy'. I noticed this trailer being shared about today but I didn't know it had Adam Sandler and his cronies in it, no thanks :p

Used Future 03-19-15 12:47 AM

Oh lawd.

gbgoodies 03-19-15 12:56 AM

It looks like a typical stupid Adam Sandler movie. :(

Like we didn't see that one coming.

Quoted for cleverness. But seriously, I can't help but think about how this movie would have played out with anybody else involved.

Adam Sandler has put out ridiculous comedies and films, and this is a Happy Madison film, but this isn't a normal Adam Sandler comedy. Just because he's 'in' it doesn't mean it will always be as negative as some of Adam's films.

The premise is original that's no doubt. The humor is there, and it may not be "slap my knee hysterical that I'm gonna crack a rib" but I am sure it has a few chuckles.

I will see this eventually due to the 80's and arcade game nostalgia, and it looks somewhat fun. It's nothing to really be harsh about, since there are worse films out there. I haven't even seen the film so I personally can't judge.

Although I don't see many films a year in the theater anymore, I'll probably catch this on a friend's DVD/Blu-Ray, if I don't get a chance to hit the big screen for this. The only way I'll probably do so would be to see the pixeled video game characters on the screen. :p

Re: Pixels

I wonder if they had to pay a killing for the licensing to get Pac Man and Donkey Kong on screen?

Re: Pixels

Cost 88m, was released yesterday, and only made 4m.

Been cited as the worst Sandler movie and the worst comedy ever made. Also been called relentlessly exhausting, sexist, and someone said "like the game era it's based on, it has no replay value and isn't worth a Quarter" and "Too adult for children, too childish for adults".
One reviewer on RT actually said "F*cking lazy"
19% on RT.

Gotta admit I never heard of this until yesterday when I saw it ping up on Facebook trending.
Sandler and Kevin James in the same film? Sounds like a nightmare for me.

Re: Pixels

Cost only 88 mil? Should have been around 120 mil so that it could bomb even harder, leading to the death of Sandler's movie career.

Opening weekend is an estimated merely 25 mil dollars. Lovely.

Re: Pixels

I agree, hopefully studios will learn not to back Sandler or James.

Re: Pixels

The sad part is that it looks like the concept could have been done rather well if it had ended up in the hands of, well, virtually anyone else.

I've just found this:

Funnily enough, the segment Raiders Of The Lost Arcade inspired a movie called Pixels, in the year 2010 as well.
Sandler's Pixels was then based on the 2010 movie.

I watched the Pixels short recently. It was decent.

Who's calling this the worst Sandler movie ever? Obviously it's not good, but it's still 6 times the RT number of Jack and Jill, which I think is generally considered the worst (haven't seen Pixels, but Jack and Jill really is awful). Regardless, I think PG13 was a horrible choice for this. You either make it PG and for kids who like the video games, at least allowing adults to give it a pass as being childish, or you make it R and go raunchy with it (Not with an 85 million dollar budget, but if you cut it in half and embraced adult things targeting 80s kids you could've made a hit).

Re: Pixels

Here is the thing you either like sandler and his style of comedy or you dont and its clear he does have an audience for movies people hate make killings on dvd and Sandler does always mostly somehow make back most the cost in a budget. Pixels not gonna win against Marvel and Ant Man.

The Rodent 07-25-15 02:25 PM

Re: Pixels

I can't find the review that said it was the worst Sandler movie, definitely read one though. Might have been on RT, can't remember though.

I get the appeal Sandler has with some people. They like his style of gross-out, the racist and the sexist style of, erm, "comedy"...

I enjoy gross-out comedy myself sometimes... but let's face it, Sandler is disgusting at a totally different level.
Any guy who thinks it's right to play disabled and mentally handicapped characters for sh*ts and giggles, or make fun of people like that simply for the kicks, doesn't deserve an audience, no matter how small that audience may be.

Re: Pixels

I only recall him playing the Waterboy in that method humor. His last movie he was not crude of disgusting. The Africa movie with Drew he wasnt too horrible in that. Drew however kinda gave her worst sandler and barrymore team up performance. I liked Sandler in The Longest Yard, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, Big Daddy, Mr Deeds and Just Go With It. Pixels seems my kind a comedy for sandler. Also Kevin James is not as bad as sandler. He was good in that movie where he had too learn how to mma fight.
