How many Best Picture winners have you seen?
I've seen 28
The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) West Side Story (1961) Patton (1970) The Godfather(1972) The Godfather Part II (1974) Rocky (1976) Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) Platoon (1986) Dances with Wolves (1990) The Silence of the Lambs (1991) Unforgiven (1992) Forrest Gump (1994) Braveheart (1995) Titanic (1997) Shakespeare in Love (1998) American Beauty (1999) Gladiator (2000) A Beautiful Mind (2001) Chicago (2002) Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) Million Dollar Baby (2004) Crash (2005) The Departed (2006) No Country for Old Men (2007) Slumdog Millionaire (2008) The Hurt Locker (2009) The King's Speech (2010) The Artist (2011) I've also seen Argo and Lincoln and I think one of those is going to win at the 85th Academy Awards so I guess I've seen 29 but we'll just have to wait and see. In your opinion which is the best and which is the worst? Best: Silence of the Lambs or Lord of the Rings. I can't decide Worst: The King's Speech Which one do you recommend? Sorry for all the questions :) |

And if you want to know how many I've seen you can check my lists - think the Best Picture one is updated. |
I've seen 30
Sunrise (1928) All Quiet On the Western Front (1930) It Happened One Night (1934) Ben Hur (1959) My Fair Lady (1964) The Sound Of Music (1965) One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Next (1975) Ghandi (1982) Terms Of Endearment (1983) Rain Man (1988) Driving Miss Daisy (1989) Dances With Wolves (1990) The Silence Of The Lambs (1991) Unforgiven (1992) Schindler's List (1993) Forrest Gump (1994) Braveheart (1995) Titanic (1997) Shakespeare In Love (1998) American Beauty (1999) Gladiator (2000) A Beautiful Mind (2001) Chicago (2002) The Lord Of the Rings: The Return Of The King (2003) Crash (2005) The Departed (2006) No Country For Old Men (2007) The King's Speech (2010) The Artist (2011) I think the best in terms of quality and emotional impact is Schindler's List. However, every time I watch it, I come away feeling like I've just been hit by a train. I literally cannot watch it more than once every few years because I'm a complete wreck afterward. That said, as good as it is it's not a favorite. Favorites from this list include Gladiator, The Departed, Dances With Wolves, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I think the worst film of those I've seen is a tie between Shakespeare In Love (It's total fluff, no real depth) and Crash which is completely utterly lacking in subtlety and nuance. I also really didn't care No Country For Old Men, Lord of the Rings, Braveheart, Unforgiven, The Silence of the Lambs, and The Sound of Music. |

Schindler's List is also a fantastic film that's extremely well done but again not something I'd watch over and over. Maybe I could of bolded these two if we're talking objectively and in terms of craftsmanship, but like I said they don't bring the same personal enjoyment and rewatchability as the others. Forrest Gump I find is a good film don't get me wrong but overrated for me, maybe I need to watch it again, just don't think it's Best Picture material as opposed to Pulp Fiction ;) |
The Sound of Music 1965
Oliver 1968 Patton 1970 The French Connection 1971 The Godfather 1972 The Sting 1973 Godfather 2 1974 One Flew Over Cockoos Nest 1975 Rocky 1976 The Deer Hunter 1978 Kramer vs Kramer 1978 Chariots of Fire 1981 Platoon 1986 Rain Man 1988 Dances with Wolves 1990 and from this point the only films I havent seen are ; Shakespeare in Love 1998 Chicago 2002 (LOL I know it will be total ****) The Artist 2011 |

It should have been Shawshank by a nose but Gump is awesome. Schindler's List doesn't have great repeatability but its a hell of a film. And Casablanca I have to disagree with you I think it has some solid repeatability. To each his own though obviously.

Re: How many Best Picture winners have you seen?
Love Million Dollar Baby. I can understand being mad about All About Eve being that low, but it just didn't click with me. Not sure a rewatch would help, either. To me, any of those top 6 could take the cake for the top spot it's fairly close.
