Of the ones ive seen, its a toss up between 13 Assassins and Wu Xia, both of which are excellently directed. I picked Wu Xia in the end as i felt it was more origin in storytelling.... 13 Assassins was more akin to Seven Samurai. Not that it was bad, (its very entertaining) but the plot was a little generic.

Re: The best martial arts movie in 2011
I like martial art films and sadly I only watched the Green Hornet in the movies mentioned. The film is great but I can't also compare the martial films way back when there are no so much special effects yet. I love martial art films when they look more natural. That's why Chinese action movies and the best for me.

13 Assassins is a great movie but I think there were a lot left off the list.
I have been trying to get ahold of The Raid but I can't find it to rent anywhere. And thanks ES I just put Merantau on my Netflix list. |
