Australian Films
My favorite films from down here are The Castle, The Dish, and of course Moulin Rouge. However, there are a heap more that I think are also really great -- My Brilliant Career is a really good film, and perhaps my favorite Australian film of them all is Shine.
I was just wondering what are your favorite Australian films, and why. |
Favorite movie made in Australia by Australians:
Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975), Peter Weir Favorite movie made in Australia by non-Aussie's: Walkabout (1971), Nic Roeg Other favorites made Down Under: The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994), The Thin Red Line (1998), Gallipoli (1981), Age of Consent (1969), Dead Calm (1989), The Cars That Ate Paris (1974), The Coca-Cola Kid (1985), Children of the Revolution (1996), Lantana (2001), Flirting (1991), Muriel's Wedding (1994), My Brilliant Career (1979), Romper Stomper (1992) |
The Thin Red Line?? Australian?? Shows what I know...
I must agree with Gallipoli though. Great film. Haunting final shot. |
The Thin Red Line wasn't set in Australia (Guadalcanal, of course) and Terry Malick isn't an Aussie, but it was indeed shot in Australia - all over Queensland to be more specific. That's why I was counting it.
|
Funny that none of us over here really know about it.
Mind you it makes sense. You could shoot anything in Queensland, especially further north. |
I haven't got around to seeing The Dish yet but The Castle is the movie most quoted around my house.
"Jousting Sticks for $500? Dreaming." Nobody's mentioned Strictly Ballroom. That's one of my favourites. I love Aussie humour. |
MAD MAX BABY!

Walkabout is great and Priscilla was a fun movie.

|

God Priscilla freaked the **** out of me...especially Guy and Hugo :::shudders::: |
Yes, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revelations are being shot in Australia. Sydney, actually.
They even had a casting call for Sydney men of Hugo Weaving height and stature for a scene in which apparently the our countless Agent Smith's battling the real one. Apparently he becomes a renegade, sperate to the Matrix. But he is the epitome of what the Matrix is, so how can he be seperate to it? He is the Matrix. He embodies it, does Smith. Interesting developments. Wrong forum for them. |
yeah you write silver bullet they wanted 150 to be exact i wanted to do it but i am a bit young fav austrlian movie would have to be chopper but fav movie filmed in OZ would have to be the matrix
|
Few questions, man:
You Australian? Where you live, sounds like Sydney? How old are you? I agree. Chopper is an amazing film, and a real showcase for the power of Eric Bana (who many of you would have seen in Black Hawk Down). It's a very, very good film. |
yeah i am from australia i actually live in melbroune and i am 16 i think black hawk down looked a bit disopointing and from the previews i saw eric bana was the wrong person for his role but i haven't fully seen the movie so i might be wrong

The Matrix

As we've mentioned, not technically an Australian film.
 |

I rather like the movie Sirens and one that is nice, nice enought to be really good,Chopper
|
There was something about Sirens that just screamed "soft-porn". The whole thematic element of finding oneself and living and experiencing life seem wasted on the fact that it seemed very soft-pornish.
Meanwhile, I only just found out that Portia Di Rossi is a lesbian. Why did no one tell me?! I would have an effort to track her down!! :yup: |
One of my favorite movies which have been made in Australia (Not really an Australian) is Pitch Black. It is not your ordinary Sci-Fi. It is not filled with crazy explanations and scientific theories, (like Alien).
What do you think? |
