Aliens 5, my idea
I think that for aliens 5, movies #3&4 should be "nightmares" that ripley had while in cryostasis. Then just formulate an story around that, NO KILLING NEWT OR HICKS! Ripley spent all of "ALIENS" trying to keep them alive, killing them off would make that movie pointless, and undermined.

Alien 3 (The Assembly Cut) is a great film. I like it a whole lot, and I am glad they got rid of that little whine ass, Newt, who always drove me up the wall.

Re: Aliens 5, my idea
Well, I agree that ALIENS is a great movie, but to be honest, if I had to hear that little snot nosed flapper yell "Ripleeeeeeeeeee" one more time, I would personally throw her out an airlock. I think thats what the producers were thinking when they hashed out ALIEN3. "Let's not have the whiny little flapstick in this one, she may turn-off most movie goers...". As far as another ALIEN movie, I'm thinking Mrs. Weaver may be a bit too long in the tooth for the lead role, but who knows? Sly did another ROCKY after all...

Re: Aliens 5, my idea
I didn't like Alien 3 (even the special edition) though this is entirely due to the fact that Hicks and Newt were killed off resulting in an incredibly bleak and depressing story. Hicks was my hero from the second film, a strong scrupulous male figure (a rarity in this series) with a talent for survival. To have him unceremoniously dispatched off screen in such a helpless manner completely betrayed the character for me. I also liked Newt and the sense of hope she gave to Ripley and the story. Killing her off reduced Weaver's character to an embittered empty shell that practically has me reaching for the prozac bottle every time I watch Alien 3.
You might say well that's the whole point of the movie UF, but for me there were plenty of other routes Fincher could have gone down without sacrificing the bleak atmosphere or the characters. Ripley, Newt and Hicks were becoming a close family unit, united in the face of the alien and the company by their experience. These themes could have been used to generate a greater sense of peril in the third installment. Indeed there was room to develop the characters and put them in interesting situations that might well have resulted in a much more interesting and exciting film. If you ask me, the makers of Alien 3 chickened out. The script for Alien Ressurection was ludricrous, Weaver should never have agreed to do it, end of story as far as I'm concerned. Alien 5? naturally this is hypothetical, and I'm sorry to sound like a broken record, but I only want to see it if either Ridley Scott or James Cameron are involved. If Weaver has to be in the film, then I would agree with invisiblepredator that parts 3&4 should be discounted as cryo-sleep nightmares (not much of a stretch really:D). I would like it to take place some years after the events of Aliens so Weaver could act her age in the film and take a secondary role of some sort. Again I'm going over old ground here, but the logical choice for me has always been to set the film on either Earth or the Alien home planet. I personally like the idea of a taut horror/thriller with Ripley as an obsessive investigative crusader determined to discover evidence that the company has alien specimens on Earth (just a thought). Still, it's highly unlikely that Alien 5 will ever go into production, which is probably a good thing when you consider how the people at Fox have ruined the franchise. |

What he said. :) Except that Ripley was my main hero in the second film and I watched Alien 3 Directors Cut recently and found it be a surprisingly well made and taut thriller. It's definitely the only version that should exist because the previous cut was absolute shite. Like I said in my thread, I like all Alien films for at least having their own distinctive styles, but Alien Resurrection was very odd indeed. |
Re: Aliens 5, my idea
Loved all parts of the first 3 alien movies, all different in many ways but Resurrection was not a good ending to weavers part in those movies, i dont even put the 2 new movies in with the original. its kind of a shame what they did to the series

A low down dirty shame if you ask me. |

Michael Biehn was a fantastic Hicks. Such a great, yet underrated actor. |
Re: Aliens 5, my idea
Alien 5 is one of those movie ideas that is awesome. But it should have happened a long time ago, and since it should have happened a long time ago, the chances of it ever happening are pretty much slim to none.

Re: Aliens 5, my idea
Weaver mentioned way before that the setting of the next Aliens would be in the aliens' home-world, but that's all she said. Lots of ideas can come out there like a marine invasion of the home-world or space-ship crash then rescue there.

Re: Aliens 5, my idea
I don't know if they should make another one, I liked all of the older ones, yes, but by part four, the alien (who once scared the hell out of me when I saw the first one, I mean I had nightmares about that thing chasing me. Of course, I was 12) just has lost it's impact, and I think that the two awful Aliens Vs Predator flicks have done what Ripley never was able to do and killed off the Aliens for good. I actually liked Alien: Resurrection, but then I'm a big Joss Whedon fan and if you look at it, it's a dry run for Firefly. :D
