Smurfs!
As tall as three apples....
So it's true. A Smurfs movie is due in 2008. Only voice talent I know of to be in it is John Lithgow, who i think would make the perfect Gargamel. Its also supposed to be the first movie in a trilogy. I think it will be a huge success. Hopefully they use the original cartoon and/or comic books for inspiration. Loved the books as a kid. |
As long as I finally get to see Smurfette's guns, I am there....

Well, I myself am not psyched up for this at all. I have seen this when I was a kid on TV but as a film.......give me a break. Though, whatever has been stated or read it the picture is not set in stone as of yet. |

First Official Look at The Smurfs USA Today has published this first official look at The Smurfs, which is filming in New York City. The first trailer will also debut on Thursday, so stay tuned! The article explains how Peyo's popular characters come to the Big Apple:
During the opening scene, set in that original time, Gargamel discovers the Smurfs' magical village and scatters them into the woods. "Unfortunately, Clumsy goes the wrong way into a forbidden grotto where a few other Smurfs follow," says director Raja Gosnell (Scooby-Doo). "Because it's a blue moon, there's a magical portal that transports them to Central Park."
Returning home is more complicated as Gargamel pursues them. The trio pictured — along with Smurfette, Brainy and a new character, the brave-to-a-fault Gutsy — take refuge with a husband and wife (Neil Patrick Harris and Glee's Jayma Mays). Eating the Smurfs was always Gargamel's unfulfilled goal, but that's one idea the filmmakers decided to scrap. "We all wondered whether we would be making a family version of Sweeney Todd," jokes producer Jordan Kerner (Charlotte's Web). Now, Gargamel simply wants to capture the Smurfs to serve as charms, whose mystical essence will make his inept magic more powerful — and dangerous. Source: ComingSoon.net |

Not happy with the way their eyes look.

Not happy that they are hitting the real world. No ringdancing around the fireplaces...

Re: Smurfs!
People are going to hate my A@# for this post but hell ya. A smurfs movie in 3D this is going to be great for my little guys. It will be their first 3D movie in the theater. My kids love the Smurfs and to see it on the big screen they are going to love it.

Re: Smurfs!
Huh. Doesn't look terrible...this looks like a movie I'd watch on netflix when I was so sick I couldn't concentrate on anything more complex. I do wonder why anyone expected anything different than this.

Re: Smurfs!
I don't despise anyone who sees this as a decent kids movie (though the trailer was kind of innuendo-y for a G-rated flick), but I am becoming acutely aware of the gulf between the really good family films and the throwaways. Stuff like Yogi Bear, or Marmaduke, or Smurfs; they just seem so utterly disposable. There's nothing really wrong with them, they're just lazy, and these days we're lucky in that there are so many better options that can engage all ages and really challenge kids.
