I did, however, enjoy The Road Warrior and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.. Filmed in Australia with Australian crew and actors, but hardly about Australia. Good flicks, though. Gallipoli was good too. |
I am an Australian and like many of our movies like
The Castle Rabbit Proof Fence Take Away Honourable Wally Norman thats all i can think of at the moment |
My favorite Australian film? Well, I don't know many, but I love The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
FELICIA (talking to Jesus on a crucifix): Oh, for heaven's sake, get down off that crucifix! Someone needs the wood. |
the castle is legendary..." it's...it's the vibe of the thing" ...hahahaha...
also, muriel is getting married ( i think that's the name anyway...awsome abba soundtrack ), chopper was fairly good,gallipoli was awsome ( mostly because of the end scene/music )....there's probly more.... |
Gallipoli = OK
Picnic at Hanging Rock = Awesome dude. Does Walkabout count? Nicolas Roeg = British, I think. I like Romper Stomper a lot. |
There's a whole thread already devoted to this topic, HERE.

Rabbit Proof Fence is my favorite Australian film... but I also liked....
The Castle Mad Max The Year of Living Dangerously Picnic at Hanging Rock The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert Strictly Ballroom Ned Kelly (with Heath Ledger) And I have Romper Stomper but haven't gotten around to watching it yet…. |
An angel at my table - though i am unsure if this would be considered more New Zealand than Australia, and its more a mini series...I loved it.
Chopper - A film that always puts a smile on my face. The Dish - I was'nt a fan of. The humour for me was very hit and miss, though I know a few who adore it. Rabbit Proof Fence - I disliked. Heartfelt story, journey, but it did'nt click with me. The Piano - A favourite with me. (though its really new zealand/australia) Dead Calm - entertaining..... Muriels wedding - loved it, the same goes for similar type films - Strictly Ballroom and Priscilla. I love the quirk that often comes with Australian film. Shine - beautiful and touching...hmmm. Young Einstein - I loved as a kid, I have no idea what I would think of it now. Holy Smoke - I can't remember caring for very much. That's all I can think of at the moment. |

Chopper and Picnic at Hanging Rock are my favourites from the not so large selection.
And I'll give Wolf Creek an honourable mention. For giving it a go. |
The Year My Voice Broke is one of my favorite movies of all time from anywhere, not just Australia. Easily one of the finest movies of the 80s.
Picnic at Hanging Rock is very good, and I liked Mr Reliable, Malcolm and TYMVB's more famous but less good sequel Flirting, among others. |
I love aussie films (Not just because i am an aussie):
The wog boy The castle (i LOVE it) Muriels wedding Priscilla Queen of the desert The wannabes You and your stupid mate Take away The nugget Looking for alibrandi.. etc.. I didn't like Garage days or Picnic at hanging rock very much at all ( WE had to watch it at school a few years ago and I didn't like it very much. Dragged on). Has anyone ever Seen a horror movie called Lost things? It came on fox(cable) one night and its really good. Better than wolf creek personally. The twist is great! |

Some that come to mind right now;
Romper Stomper Metal Skin - a must see The orginal Mad Max Phat Pizza - For the parady it provides. Shine - I was very lucky to see David Halfgott perform live in Sapporo Japan about 6 or 7 years ago BMX Bandits - one of Niccole Kidman's 1st movie, worth a laugh! oh there are so many more... and let's face it - most aussie movies are worth watching!!! |
wolf creek is not a bad movie for its genre.
|
Does Crocodile Dundee count? :D
Heh. |
