Flight of The Navigator Remake

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hea...reboot-1043758

"Flight of the Navigator is ready to soar once again.

Joe Henderson, the showrunner of Fox’s supernatural show Lucifer, has been hired to write a reboot of the 1986 kids sci-fi adventure movie that is now set up at Lionsgate.

The Henson Co. is on board to produce.

The movie told of a 12-year-old boy who is abducted by a UFO and reappears eight years later, at the exact same age and with no memories of what happened. When NASA officials spot a connection between the boy and a recovered UFO and try to ensnare him, the kid tries to unravel the intergalactic mystery while trying to reunite with his family.

Wasn’t Colin Trevorrow attached to this?

Oops.

"It was announced in September that Disney's Flight of the Navigator remake was back on track. Lucifer showrunner John Henderson is penning the script for Lionsgate, with the partnering of the Henson Company. And now, it looks like director Neill Blomkamp (District 9) might be in talks to helm the project after a cryptic tweet earlier this week. Fans have been waiting decades for the remake to the 1986 sci-fi adventure to come into fruition and it finally looks like we may have lift off for Flight of the Navigator.

Neill Blomkamp started his Oats Studios as a creative offshoot for short films to be released online and took to Twitter earlier this week to announce that they were going to make a sequel to his short ADAM and then left fans in suspense teasing what his next full-length project will be. The director tweeted.

When Neill Blomkamp announced that Oats Studios was making a sequel to ADAM, he followed that announcement with not words, just a picture. The picture is very familiar for fans of Flight of the Navigator as it features the main character David Scott Freeman aboard the alien spaceship. No other announcements were made and we've been left speculating what exactly is happening, but in context, it certainly looks like Neill Blomkamp's next movie is going to be a remake of Flight of the Navigator, which could be an excellent idea."

Oh Yippee /sarc

David will more than likely end up fused to the ship, with mechanical limbs and tubes coming out of his head.

Probably have Sharlto Copley as Dr Faraday... only this time evil instead of a friendly protagonist scientist with an askew agenda.

Chappie was a remake of the classic Short Circuit, hidden under a lot of marketing... now he's going full on remake. Of another classic.
He made one half-decent movie with District 9... take note to how the article mentions District 9 as reference to Blomkamp's past, but doesn't mention his other movies... Chappie, Elysium, plus about 30 short-films... all of which have been below mediocre and centered around body-dysmorphia.

His treatment for a new Alien movie was also centered around Ripley being a body-modified super-human with tubes coming out her head, in some kind of S&M leather robotic costume.
Thankfully, this abomination was shelved by studios.

Blomkamp is hack. Not only can't I believe the studios are still remaking classics... they are still hiring Blomkamp... and then, they give him this movie too.

Trying to think of a title for this now...

Harsh. Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing what he has in store. Sure, he came out with some stinkers, but who hasn't. Doesn't change the fact that, though he's had some lapse in judgment, he's still very talented. It shows in his work with Oats Studios.

Well, news in... the remake is happening, but without Blomkamp.

Worst of all though... they're Ghostbusters2016-ing it.
All female cast, directed by Bryce Dallas Howard.

Yikes. I wouldn't be surprised if James Corden voices Max.

Yeah at this news I'd actually welcome whatever version Blomkamp had planned.

I have no issue with it.
The Ghostbusters reboot failed largely on the premise and script, not as a result of the women themselves. Although I didn’t care for their characters, that was a flaw based on the script

I was a huge fan of the original film growing up. We owned it on VHS and I've seen it a ton of times, though probably not since the mid-90s! My main memories of it are the opening shot where the "UFO" turns out to be a frisbee thrown for a dog and then just the conceptual weirdness of arriving home and your little brother is almost an adult. I'm honestly not sure how the film would look to me now, and I'm not overeager to find out.

My feelings on a remake (gender-swapped or not) are currently agnostic. It could be a soulless, nostalgia cash-grab (as 95% of remake/reboots are), or maybe it'll be a solid sci-fi film for kids. I feel like there's a bit of a dearth of good sci-fi for kids these days, and I'd welcome some with either gender in the lead role.

For any other fans, one of my favorite YouTubers, Captain Disillusion did an extended episode on the VFX in the film and it's great:
