Vampire Movies
One of my pet interests has been vampires (in both movies and literature). I have seen the majority of recent vampire movies, and I was wondering if people had any that they would recommend. I have seen:
Van Helsing Underworld Underworld: Evolution Interview with a Vampire Ultraviolet The Lost Boys Dracula 2000 Queen of the Damned Blade: Trinity Dusk Till Dawn And I have Brom Stoker's Dracula around my place that I have yet to see. I was wondering if there are any good ones that I have missed. |
Well, they aren't "recent" as in the last few years, but a couple great ones from the '80s to track down ASAP are Near Dark and Fright Night.
|
Blade and Blade 2, both being better than the aweful Trinity
|
There hasn't been a decent vampire movie since the late 70s.
Besides, most recent 'vampire' flicks are actually martial arts movies with bad dental work... |

Dracula (1931) remains THE Vampire movie
Nosferatu (1922) is great and I like the comedies The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967) Love at First Bite (1979) |
Shadow of the Vampire
|
-From dusk til dawn
-John Carpenter's vampires -Dracula, dead and loving it -The Night flier -Buffy the vampire slayer -Jesus Christ, Vampire hunter -Sundown-the vampire in retreat(havent seen it myself but I've heard it's good) |
I have seen the first Dusk Till Dawn movie. That one was very messed up, that is all I have to say. I enjoyed it though.

I love vampires, but I've seen very few that are any good. I'm in full agreement with the martial arts comment.
The best is easily Romero's Martin, even though - or perhaps because of - you are unsure if it really is a vampire movie. |
I'm embarrased for Romero.

And my top ten all-time would be...
1. Nosferatu (1922 - F. W. Mernau) 2. Near Dark (1987 - Kathryn Bigelow) 3. Fright Night (1985 - Tom Holland) 4. Shadow of the Vampire (2000 - E. Elias Merhige) 5. Vampire's Kiss (1989 - Robert Bierman) 6. Dracula (1931 - Tod Browning) 7. Dracula (1958 - Terence Fisher) 8. Nosferatu (1979 - Werner Herzog) 9. Love at First Bite (1979 - Stan Dragoti) 10. Lair of the White Worm (1988 - Ken Russell) |
Fright Night had a sequal but no where near as good.

Thanks to everyone who has replied. I will have to start checking some of them out.

If you really like the Vampire genre, I recommend both the "Angel" and "Buffy the Vampyre Slayer" television series. They are very entertaining and are totally original takes on the Vampire mythos. ;)
