What is the best Coen brother's movie?

jamesglewisf 02-03-01 12:41 AM

I like "O Brother, Where Art Thou." It was really funny.

I also like Fargo and Raising Arizona. I thought the Lebowski movie was awful.

Yoda 02-03-01 09:25 AM

I voted for "Raising Arizona", and any who voted for anything other than that or "Fargo" is a traitor. :)

Millers Crossing isnt up their & thats my favourite Coen Brothers Picture. Followed closely by The Big Lebowski & Blood Simple.

LordSlaytan 09-22-02 12:06 AM

Raising Arizona is one of my favorite movies...

"They took his hair, Tommy. Jesus, that's strange."
Miller's Crossing

Lebowski. No contest, altough I love Fargo and O Brother as well.

Jonny Goodboy 09-23-02 08:44 PM

The Big Lebowski - Hands down. :yup:

Herod 09-23-02 09:45 PM

Most likely it's "Raising Arizona"
but Lebowski is a close second.

Call me a traitor if you like, but Fargo was a damn fine motion picture if you ask me! Actually, my favorite is The Hudsucker Proxy. It's got Tim Robbins, Bruce Camobell and was co written by Sam Raimi, whose films I like better than the Coen Brothers...(Well, except For Love of the Game. That was just sh*te.)

mecurdius 09-29-02 10:24 PM

O Brother, Where Art Thou

Herod 09-29-02 10:32 PM

Tut tut...
typo in your sig(nature),
I'm pretty sure it's "Cassidy"

Anyways, funny Coen Brothers tidbit:
They had never actually read "The Odyssey" and based that movie (o BROTHER) loosely around the cliffnotes.

FanBoy 09-29-02 10:43 PM

I have to agree with Holden on this one... Miller's Crossing.

The Danny Boy murder scene is one of the finest scene's I have ever been fortunate enough to watch.

Right Now...
Miller's Crossing & The Big Lebowski

linespalsy 09-30-02 10:12 AM

still have yet to see 'miller's crossing', but my fave is 'blood simple'.

mecurdius 10-02-02 12:00 AM

i9 have never heard of Miller's crossing, whats it like?

Holden Pike 10-02-02 01:34 AM

It's a Coen Brothers' movie, therefore it defies any easy classification.

What the story's about is gangsters, grifters, loyalty, double crosses, triple crosses, up is down, black is white, if you can't trust a fix what can you trust?, a lie and no heart, longshots, secret lovers, tommy guns, toupees, knowing all the angles and hats.

But if you want to know what it's like, well...see it.

LordSlaytan 10-02-02 03:37 AM

that about sums it up ~hiccup~

Karl Childers 10-20-02 05:42 AM

In this order:

Blood Simple (brilliant)

Fargo (almost as good)

Miller's Crossing (too over-the-top to be in the same class as above)

Raising Arizona (wry humor abounds)

Barton Fink (a tad too pretentious)

O Brother.... (haven't seen it)

The Big Lebowski (haven't seen it)

Travis_Bickle 12-16-02 04:47 PM

Every Coen brother's film that comes out, you can expect to be good. With the exception of Barton Fink.

The Man Who Wasn't There, Raising Arizona, Fargo... all great.

I love the scene when John Turturro breaks down crying in Millers Crossing. Great acting.
