Devo's Freedom of Choice is my favourite, but it was a pretty strong year for metal. A few not yet mentioned:
Motorhead - Ace of Spades Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard of Ozz Diamond Head - Lightning to the Nations Scorpions - Animal Magnetism Def Leppard - On Through the Night A key year for punk as well. From the hardcore side of things, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables by the Dead Kennedys and Los Angeles by X are pretty essential listens, but my favourite punk record would have to be Joan Jett's Bad Reputation (released as Joan Jett in 1980, re-released under the better known title the following year). Maybe the purest example that comes to mind of taking classic rock'n'roll and turning it up way the **** loud (don't Ramones me, dammit). |

Any Grace Jones fans here? I've been listening to this one quite a bit lately (mostly because I've been watching Sandra Bernhard's appearances on Letterman and she kept bringing up Grace Jones).

Grotesque is my favorite Fall album, ever.
I like Grace Jones. I only have her greatest hits, but I think most of the tracks are pretty great. |

Disclaimer: This has been like pulling teeth. I saw this thread and my answers were not so great, and I didn't want them compared to previous years, which were night and day.
John Lennon - Double Fantasy (My favorite solo artist, but this is his weakest album) Bob Marley - Uprising (best Marley album. an anomaly in many ways, rare that someone's final work is their best) Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard of Ozz Dire Straits - Making Movies David Bowie - Scary Monster Paul McCartney - McCartney II Nino Ferrer - La Carmencita The Rolling Stones - Emotional Rescue Billy Joel - Glass Houses The Police - Zenyatta Mondatta Queen - The Game |
