Hell of a title to live up too. Particularly when it’s not true.

So Nicolas Cage is making a movie about Nicolas Cage starring Nicolas Cage as Nicolas Cage.

I hope it's like Being John Malkovich and all his character says is "Nicholas Cage."

Re: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

The movie should be about the Superman movie that never was!
(Sure, we have a documentary made about it, but why not a dramatic feature recounting it? Like that Pearl Harbor movie... "Based" on a true story!) ;)

It's going to be Nic Cage's version of Joker... about a desperate actor slowly losing his mind. ;)

Well it's Nic Cage so it's already better lol

Re: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

This movie could turn out to be groundbreaking. You never know, it could end up being to Cage what Birdman was to Michael Keaton.

Imagine Cage getting an Oscar nomination for playing himself.

JoaoRodrigues 11-16-19 07:51 AM

Giving the amount of movies Nicolas Cage is been doing, most with unknown directors, solely based on his personal correlation with the script, some of which are terrible, others are a good surprise, the only thing we couldn’t expect would be exactly this, that’s why it’s happening.

Mr Minio 11-16-19 08:59 AM

Re: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

What if for the past 15 years Cage deliberately acted in terrible films, so that he could make this meta-film later?!

MoreOrLess 11-16-19 10:55 AM

Re: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

Sounds rather a lot like Birdman which you could argue mirrors cage's career even moreso than Keaton's.

Cage has been pretty obviously poking fun at his own persona in interviews for awhile, referring to himself in the 3rd person and the like.

I mean, he already got one for playing the screenwriter of the movie he was in.

He’s not making it (credit where credit’s due)

It's funnier

WorldFilmGeek 11-18-19 12:37 PM

It sounds like a Nic Cage version of the comedy JCVD, where Van Damme played a comical sort of version of himself and that film was did very well. Will it work for Cage? That remains to be seen.

Mr. Pancakes, I agree. Nic was horrible in "The Wicker Man" remake. Sorry, I know you love him but they "*****" on the original The Wicker Man and that makes me

I'm mostly waiting for his film with Sion Sono.

I have a feeling this will be the movie everybody will be talking about this time next year.

I’ll be waiting for this. I watched his three latest films from this year all in a row a few weekends ago and he was entertaining in all three, but Pig was his best and quite possibly one of the best films of the year. I am not kidding here.

Yoda 12-14-21 01:57 PM

Re: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

I just saw Pig a few days ago and yeah, really affecting film. Cage has always been interesting, and obviously frequently ridiculous, but there's real talent there, too. No one quite like him.

Anyway, kinda looking forward to this, though I suspect it's a little too self-aware to be great and will probably be more silly than profound, even though on paper it should/could have the potential to be both.

I just need Cage to become a hat guy or visit Maury. The hair really dominates each and every performance for me.

GulfportDoc 12-19-21 07:37 PM

Looks like it could be a good comedy. Glad to see Cage back on track. I'd about closed the door on him after Pig.

The thread title is actually what it's called.

When I went to see West Side Story, there was a preview of this movie...it looks really interesting.

Saw this earlier, found it extremely wanting. Definitely amused at a) how old this thread is and b) that any of us ever thought this had the potential to be an Oscar contender just because it had some superficial similarities to Birdman.

Re: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

Interesting/surprising, friend of mine thought it was great, though I don't have a great sense of his tastes.

Iroquois 05-11-22 11:19 AM

Re: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

It shouldn't be too surprising. There was always going to be a decent chance that it would settle for coasting on Cage's status as a living meme at the expense of all other considerations (and the Adaptation comparisons are unavoidable, especially since this film is much more up-front about how it's aware that it's ditching character-driven drama for thrills and excitement).

ynwtf 07-15-22 11:32 PM

I am 00:45:56 through a 1:46:51 runtime and I'm loving this. It is all so ridiculous! I'm actually now considering watching Paddington 2. On LSD.
