Movies like pee-wee's big adventure or joy ride in any genre
I am looking for good movies which have the road movie adventure element to it.
A character is going from A to B but along the way hey have these little adventures before getting to their destination or not. A good example can be joy ride. The paul walker , steve zahn road movie. Because, they wanted to go from A to B but along the way they are stuck in this mini horror adventure and by the time of 3rd act I didn't care if they reached B. All I cared for is, they just get themselves out of the trouble they are in. Even texas chainsaw massacre movies are a good example. i have also seen Breakdown with kurt russell. |
Easy Rider

Highway to Hell starring Chad Lowe.

You've probably see Midnight Run (1988), which is a good travel & shenanigans movie with De Niro and Charles Grodin.

That's the gist of road movies. A lovely genre. Honkytonk Man is a good example.
Or The Straight Story. Or maybe Thelma and Louise. Josey Whales is pretty much that on a horse. Il Grido is a bit of a bleak, social take on it. The Blues Brothers would qualify too, I guess. Of course, nothing beats Greek mythology for that sort of thing. Any adaptation of the Odyssey or Jason and the Argonauts would be the ultimate archetype (Ulysses rules). Oh, Starman is a wonderful, wonderful example. Possibly my favorite. Also Butterfly Kiss, in a darker way. Damn, that one hit me in the guts. |
