Watch Movies You Should Have Already Seen

I'll be honest, I'm pretty much stealing this from another forum

You make a list of 10 unseen movies.

Post that and pick a movie from the last person's list for them to watch.

When you watch your movie, do a short review of it and add a new movie to your list. Then pick a movie for the last person to watch.

Even if someone drops out, as long as there's other people, the cycle will still work. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Movie discussions are encouraged.
1. Twin Peaks (Not actually a movie, but heh)
2. There Will Be Blood (I've seen this, but I need to give it a reassessment)
3. The Secret in Their Eyes
4. The White Ribbon
5. North By Northwest
6. A Town Called Panic
7. Alien (See There Will Be Blood)
8. Seven Samurai
9. Schindler's List (See Alien)
10. Universal Soldier

It's all good.

Just pick one of my movies for me to watch out of those ten. You post your ten that you haven't seen yet. Somebody else will pick one of yours for you to watch. If done right it can be an endless cycle.

cricket: 2001

I watched There Will Be Blood. It's the most intense movie I've ever seen. There are very few movies better than it.

My new ten:

1. Twin Peaks (Not actually a movie, but heh)
2. Hunger (2008)
3. The Secret in Their Eyes (2009)
4. The White Ribbon (2009)
5. North By Northwest (1959)
6. A Town Called Panic (2009)
7. Alien (1979)
8. Seven Samurai (1954)
9. Schindler's List (1993)
10. Universal Soldier (1992)

jiraffejustin 04-01-13 09:12 PM

I watched The White Ribbon - I'm not entirely sure what to think about it. It's only my second Haneke, I'm also not entirely sure what to think bout him. I knew of his reputation of "hating his audience" so to speak, but Amour proving he had a heart. I still haven't seen Amour, but The White Ribbon was definitely dark and cold. The Black and White were used really well though

Anyway my updated ten. If anybody still wants to play :p

1. Twin Peaks (Not actually a movie, but supposed to be great; 1990-91, David Lynch)
2. Hunger (2008, Steve McQueen, no, not THAT Steve McQueen)
3. The Secret in Their Eyes (2009, Juan José Campanella)
4. Pink Flamingos (1972, John Waters)
5. North By Northwest (1959, Alfred Hitchcock)
6. A Town Called Panic (2009, Stéphane Aubier, Vincent Patar)
7. Alien (1979, Ridley Scott)
8. Seven Samurai (1954, Akira Kurosawa)
9. Schindler's List (1993, Steven Spielberg)
10. Universal Soldier (1992, Roland Emmerich)

jiraffejustin 04-02-13 05:42 PM

I watched A Town Called Panic - very funny stop-motion animated feature. Seems like it was influenced by LSD or something, it was a bit weird. Very fun though. Highly recommended.

1. Twin Peaks (Not actually a movie, but supposed to be great; 1990-91, David Lynch)
2. Hunger (2008, Steve McQueen, no, not THAT Steve McQueen)
3. The Secret in Their Eyes (2009, Juan José Campanella)
4. Pink Flamingos (1972, John Waters)
5. North By Northwest (1959, Alfred Hitchcock)
6. Waltz with Bashir (2008, Ari Folman)
7. Alien (1979, Ridley Scott)
8. Seven Samurai (1954, Akira Kurosawa)
9. Schindler's List (1993, Steven Spielberg)
10. Universal Soldier (1992, Roland Emmerich)

Re: Watch Movies You Should Have Already Seen

Mr. Minio - Le Quattro volte (It's the only on your list I've actually heard of!)

Watched North by Northwest - Hitchcock was a true genius. NbN is another in a fine line of Hitchcock thrillers. Cary Grant looks like he was out in the sun a little too long, but he is a charming protagonist that pulls off a believable character.

1. The Thin Red Line (1998, Terrence Malick)
2. Hunger (2008, Steve McQueen, no, not THAT Steve McQueen)
3. The Secret in Their Eyes (2009, Juan José Campanella)

8. Hot Fuzz (2007, Edgar Wright)

Lost in translation, it is the strongest movie in your list. A movie that seeks out to find the sublime. I understand why many choose it as their favorite movie of the 2000's, though I didn't love it that much.

Me, some films that I am planning to watch:

1. Rome Open City (Rosellini)
2. Equinox Flower (Yasujiro Ozu)
3. Amacord (Fellini)
4. The Devil Probably (Bresson)
5. Pierrot Le Fou (Godard)
6. The Turin Horse (Bela Tar)
7. My Darling Clementine (John Ford)
8. The Master (P.A. Anderson)
9. Derzu Uzala (Akira Kurosawa)
10. Winter Light (Ingmar Bergman)

Pierrot le Fou, though seeing as you're not really a Godard person I'll recommend The Master.

Ten films at the top of my watchlist:

Stalker (Tarkovsky)
The 400 Blows (Truffaut)
Picnic at Hanging Rock (Weir)
Love Streams (Cassavetes)
Woman in the Dunes (Teshigahara)
Se7en (Fincher)
Rashomon (Kurosawa)
Amarcord (Fellini)
American Beauty (Mendes)
My Night at Maud's (Rohmer)

Seven Psychopaths, for Rockwell's performance. Saw The Man With No Name trilogy finally, and truly enjoyed them all, although on first viewing, I like A Fistful of Dollars the most. Also crossed out Tokyo Story, great film, I teared up a little at the end.

3.) Holy Motors
4.) The Princess Bride
5.) The Prestige
6.) True Grit (John Wayne)
