Good Documentary on Betting?

My friend has just decided that he wants to bet on pro sports games for a living. Sadly, he is both lazy and an idiot, so of course he's asked his stats nerd pal MM King for some help. I usually don't go along with his brain dead schemes, but he's offering half of any "profits", and I don't have to contribute any of my money, so why not?

Anyways, I figure it could be educational and useful to watch a doc that focuses on people who bet as a career. Any will do, from a movie to a tv special.

That's a good selection you got there, but I was kind of hoping for one that focuses on the final moments of money being in these people's bank accounts. You know, like a prequel.

Hmmm, it's a 99% road to failure. The most successful sports gambler is Billy Walters, you could look him up for starters. You're probably better off reading books rather than looking for something on video.

Here's a few tips-

Don't bet more than you can afford to comfortably lose.

Don't chase your losses.

Don't buy picks.

Don't bet on games involving a team that you're a fan of.

Don't bet a game simply because there's one on, like Monday night football, unless you really like the game. Bet on only games you really like, and stick with it.

I'm a reformed gambler who lost around $400,000. And I knew what I was doing. That should tell you how difficult it is.

Thank for that Cricket. I certainly know the risks involved with this sort of thing, but my friend isn't. I'll keep a close eye on him, I don't need or want him to sleep on my couch for the rest of his life.

I remember seeing a special on the mob, and they had a portion on Sam Rothstein (DeNiro played him in Casino). He was the top sports handicapper. If you can find anything on him, that would be a good place to start.

Oops, sorry mistake, that was his name for the movie, his actual name is Frank Lawrence "Lefty" Rosenthal
