Slumber Party Massacre
It was revealed yesterday that a remake of the 1982 horror cult classic The Slumber Party Massacre was shot in South Africa last month. Like the original franchise, the remake was written and directed by female filmmakers. In this case, Ash vs. Evil Dead episode writer Suzanne Keilly wrote the script for this modern-day reboot with Danishka Esterhazy ("The Banana Splits Movie") taking the helm.
The cast has been announced: Schelaine Bennett, Jane De Wet, Hannah Gonera, Alex McGregor, Reza-Tiana Wessels, and Rob van Vuuren plays the killer, Russ Thorn. Syfy Channel will air the film in late 2021 with all media going to Shout! Factory. https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/ne...-heads-to-syfy |
I just watched the original for the first time about a month ago. It'll be hard recreating that slice of 80s cheese slasher goldmine.

Yes, the new film will be a modern day reboot of an escaped mental asylum patient who slices his way using a power drill against girls holding a slumber party.

I saw the cast listing and we have another case of a comedian breaking out of his shell. Rob van Vuuren is one of South Africa's most prominent comic stars but he will be playing the killer in this one. Following in the footsteps of Donal Logue (Silent Night), Robin Williams (One Hour Photo), and Kevin James (Becky)
i saw the trailer of it im trying to remember if i saw full of the movie long time ago :/ trying to remember, i think i need to rewatch it again |

Syfy Channel? The Banana Splits Movie?
They're really bringing their A-game into this one, huh? I'm just so sick of almost every new horror movie either being a continuation, reboot or a remake. These things have always been prevalent in the genre, but the lack of new ideas is so massive it's not even funny. |

I kinda like the tagline.

Re: The Slumber Party Massacre Remake
The film is making its world premiere at this year's Fantastic Fest before it airs on SyFy Channel and there's a new still shot featuring 3 of the main characters.

Re: The Slumber Party Massacre Remake
Watched it Sunday morning after DVR'ing it. This is not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but I absolutely loved it. The original was meant to be a satire of slasher films until Roger Corman changed it to a run by the numbers slasher film. However, this one I felt did what the original intended it to be and add a touch of the difference between "feminism" and "toxic masculinity" which was actually pretty funny and they flipped the script with a few certain horror tropes. The kills are both graphic and at times subtle despite a few CGI-esque moments. The third act was even more insane and jaw-dropping IMO.

It's important to remember that a likely reason why Slumber Party Massacre was made into a Slasher film was because you had two other parodies come out in 81 (Saturday the 14th, Student Bodies). For me I prefer the humor in the 82' version because it's a drier satire, and the remake is goofy and on the nose at times. |

Only if Roger Corman is involved.
