Fringe

http://lh3.ggpht.com/_wUEhxHGCVs8/SC...ringe_hand.jpg

So, did anyone catch the pilot of Fringe last night? Once again Mr Abrams has managed to grasp my attention and entirely scramble my brains and make my nipples hard in the process. This times its quite an original and interesting premise. Fringe science. The type of science that’s more Sci-Fi than sci-reality. Telekenesis. Weather control. Mind control. Reanimation. Etc. Its like the X-Files all over again. And I loved it!

Whilst not entirely brilliant, (Like the Lost pilot) I thought it had moments of wonder. The evil corporation. Robot hand woman. Melty face people. Mind meetings. And the best bit? I loved John Noble as Dr Bishop. I have a new John Locke I think :)

What did everyone else think? In the mood for more?

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I just can't work up enough care to watch it. J.J has used up his credit with me. Alias was great.

Lost was good the first season, jumped the shark and was just M'kay the rest.

Cloverfield made me want to shoot J.J. I'm done with him.

Now if Fringe keeps getting rave reviews, I may pick up the boxed DVD set at the library in a few years.

*shrug*

Bleached, you shold give this one a try. I'm tired of JJ too, and I almost passed on this one, but I am quite glad I didnt.

I cant stand the lead girl character (she grates on my nerves), but with that plot twist I totally hooked now. The science of it is very intriguing, and I'm surprised that the guy they have playing the son of Bishop worked out so well. When he first showed up, I was kinda....iffy.

The only flaw I find with the entire plot line, is that lack of Average Joes. I mean. Cmon. Its almost unrealistic. Everyone has an IQ of 190, everyone's cutting edge. Everyone's light years ahead of the rest of of.

I can see Bishop as Locke in one sense, but in another, not so much. Because yes, Locke is that strange guy - but he was also that little guy you're rooting for.

At some level, all of these characters are Titans in their own rights. Its overwhelming, and it bloats the plot. I mean. The really smart people are doing really smart things that no one understands....unless they are really smart.

I think JJ needs to ground this story in a gritty reality, with a very primal character whose IQ is not above average - or, even if we forget IQ for second, if he just uses a very commonplace person.

If I get bored this week (on my relaxing vacation) I may just dial it up on the web and give it a shot.

Thanks Mack!

Lost jumped the shark? How so?

At least stuff actually happens in season 2. Yeah, Season 2 is one of the best, sorry!

Re: Fringe

Season 2 was when Micheal killed people he didn't have to kill destroying his character in a very thin storyline. That was when the show jumped the shark for me and my family. We were disgusted and dissappointed.

It was also the season that Kate and the male lead turned from questionable, interesting, and hot heros into whiny brats.

When a show deconstructs it's characters that way, it destroys itself. Many shows do this. I can't stand it. There are far better ways for characters to change than to make them unlikeable.

Re: Fringe

I just don't agree. If someone took your child and gave you a choice between your kid, and killing a person you barely knew, what would you do? Completely believable. I don't recall Jack and Kate whining. Alas, I DID get a bit sick of Jack and Kate at the start of season 3 (the show's low point for me). I thought they focused in on them too much, sort of losing the ensemble feel to the show. Also, don't forget Michael killed one of the people by accident.

That said, the creators have acknowledged their mistakes with those characters and rectified them, as of late. The show certainly hasn't been perfect for its entire run, but it is still some of the most interesting and compelling TV in a prime-time slot, IMO.

I like a lot of the other characters more, anyway, so I guess Jack and Kate can fall a bit without taking too much away from the entire experience for me. Characters like Ben, Locke, and Sayid are more interesting to me, I guess.

Fair play, though. Not for everyone, I guess.

Anyway, I don't want to hijack Blib's Fringe thread! We can chat more in the Lost thread...

I thought it was pretty good, I'll keep checking out for a few more weeks at least. I like J.J. just fine. Lost is the best show on television (when its on) and as someone here pointed out to me awhile ago J.J. isn't even running that show anymore so to blame him for whatever you don't like about Lost isn't really accurate.

Anyway, Fringe seemed pretty interesting so consider me tuned. My nipples didn't get hard though. Is that a British thing?

I thought it was universal? I urinated in my pants during last nights episode. That happened to everyone else too right?

Ehhh, started this one. Can't share your enthusiasm, get tired of the scientist always having an answer and a little 5 minute exposition to make every episode follow exactly the same formula. Very lazy writing. The characters aren't that interesting, too many standalone episodes and not really developing an intriguing overarching narrative to keep me hooked, as of episode 5. It's much X-Files crossed with Alias which were both infinitely more interesting.

Fringe has officially been renewed for a second season (22 episodes)....Can't wait!!!! :D

Reminder: Fringe Returns For Season 2

Fringe is back for a 2nd season, don’t forget!

Last season Olivia (Anna Torv) met William Bell (Leonard Nimoy) in the alternate reality, Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) has a secretive past only hinted at, Walter Bishop (John Noble) has what looks like a serious ethical nightmare to deal with and the FBI is just confused in general about what their Fringe department does. I think we have lots of material ripe for discussion!

Fringe is moving to Thursdays, starting tonight, September 17th.

Just saw part-1 of the second season finale.
Damn, that was the best episode yet!

http://i40.tinypic.com/mii4wz.jpg

We got to see a lot of the parallel world here, including their version of the Fringe Division and some of Walternate's evil plans for Peter.
I liked Olivia's double's look.

The alternate universe's Fringe folks work under a different idea than our Fringe folks do.
They investigate "natural environmental disasters" caused by holes in the fabric of the universe. Or so they were lead to believe.
Walternate reveals to them they are actually being invaded by another universe.

Can't wait for the finale next week.
