I search the movie where an alien ship turned into growing fire cloud
 

I have seen this scene on TV about 15-20 years ago. There was something like air chase at night. Eventually the plane (probably it was not a plane but an alien ship) exploded into an orange/red cloud of fire that started to grow. In a minute it covered very big area destroying everything (like in Independence Day). The scene was quite scary so it may be some r-rated movie. I am searching for this for a long time already, so I would appreciate your help.

I think it should be in the interval 1980s - early 2000s (based on the special effects quality and when I have seen it).


I have a feeling it is thriller / horror as it was dark and scary enough. I don’t have much information because it was the only scene I have seen. But it was definitely a live action.
