The Secret Life Of Pets

The Secret Life of Pets is a animated Buddy film directed by Chris Renaud and Yarrow Cheney and is voiced by Louis Ck, Kevin Hart and Eric Stonestreet. I found the film to be very disappointing and not very funny. Which is very sad to say despite the cast of the film. The film stars Max (Louis Ck) a dog who lives in New York City with his owner Cady (Ellie Kemper). Max's world gets rocked when his owner brings home a new dog named Duke (Eric Stonestreet). They get lost from their owner and try to get back making many friends along the way.

The opening scene sets the tone for the rest of the film as it was disappointing. The opening shows a cg city which to be honest resembles the tv show Jessie. The cgi style was just not there. The film just has gag after gag and stupid joke after stupid joke. The film relies on potty humor for the most part which I can tell kids will get bored of. The voice acting seems fake and just plain not good. The art style is just weird and hurts the eyes. I was forced to see this film for the second time an honestly fell asleep. I came to the theater with high expectations and left very disappointed. The only "good" or funny scene is when Max and Duke go to a sausage factory and get stoned off of the chemicals that is sprayed on the sausages. I can see the main audience would be bored half way through the film

0.5/5

The film actually relies heavily on in-jokes that anybody who's ever had or known a dog or cat will understand. I enjoyed the movie quite a bit, as did the friend I went with. Everyone else in the theater seemed to be having a good time as well. It's certainly not a flawless film, but I'd say it's well deserving of a rating higher than
. To each their own, I guess.
