Seats in Cinema
I may come off as sounding like someone who is neurotic and somewhat OCD but I honestly don't think I am, I just think I like doing things in life the way I like to. And that does extend to the cinema. When I go to the cinema I will always aim to sit at the back in the middle row to on the aisle. I am unsure why I do, I think it's so I can avoid having to sit next to people and can make an easy exit.
Yeah, I sound a bit weird... Does anyone else do something similar? |
I always take the seat by the aisle. Im 6'5" and need the leg room.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
I rarely go to the movies any more, but when I do I tend to sit in the back. People talk, and I hate it, and it's a lot more tolerable when they're facing away from you rather than behind you. Other than that, I try to sit far away. Ya' know, because of the talking.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
Me too.
Back row by the aisle. 3 reasons. 1) Convenience. 2) Guaranteed to have only one idiot next to me rather than being stuck between 2 idiots. 3) Being at the back means I don't have to break my neck to see the screen. |
Re: Seats in Cinema
I go for the back middle. Or the very back by the aisle if I need to make an emergency quick exit.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
I always sat near the front middle - total immersion. I was the last to leave the theatre anyway since I always watched the credits all the way through. :)
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
Depends entirely on the theater, the size of the crowd, and whether I have food or not, but generally I am in the front third of the house, on an aisle. Left or right, it doesn't matter, but I'm 6'3", so the extra leg room is a good thing to have.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
I panic when I can't get an aisle seat because I hate having to walk by everyone if I need to go to the toilet during the film, it rarely happens but I still like to have that weight off my shoulders when sitting in the cinema and not constantly thinking I might need to get up to go to the toilet sometime during the showing of the film...
So my ideal spot is an aisle seat, middle rows. :) |
Re: Seats in Cinema
3rd or 4th row from the back in the middle, usually keeps me out of the projector wash.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
I tend to sit 3rd row from the back in the northeast quarter.

I rarely go to the movie theater anymore unless it's a movie that I just can't wait to see, or a movie that I think should really be seen in IMAX. The ticket prices have gone sky high, and I can buy the DVD brand new for less than the price of two theater tickets. If I like the movie, then I already own the DVD, and if I don't like the movie, at least the DVD is sellable online somewhere, like eBay.
If it's a movie that I'm pretty sure that I'm going to want to own, then I just wait for the movie to come out on DVD, but if I'm not sure about the movie, I can just stream it from somewhere like Netflix, Hulu, or even YouTube. I can watch the streamed movie on my TV through the wireless streaming options on my Blu-Ray DVD player, so I still get to watch it on a full size TV, not a little laptop screen. |
I just follow my wife and let her decide. So I usually end up circling the theater a couple times and then switching seats about 3 times.

That's going into the "possibilities list" for best post of 2014. |
Re: Seats in Cinema
I have to sit midway up and to the right side... not the far right but to the right side... so I can position my body to see correctly. I have problems with my vision for distance and if I sit in the middle or the left side.. forget it.. my eyes cant focus correctly on the film.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
If I'm with friends, it's usually somewhere in the middle or towards the back. If I'm with my mom, then it's a middle row but on the aisle, since I'm expected to go get refills.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
When I'm by myself, I sit third row from the front in the middle. When I'm with my dad, we sit in the very back in the middle. When I'm with my immediate older sister, we sit in the very back on one of the sides. When I'm with my friend, who knows where we'll sit... it's nebulous.
|
I usually sit in the middle, but mostly when I'm when I'm with friends I take the end by the aisle. You know, if by any chance I really have to make an urgent pit stop. :p

Re: Seats in Cinema
I can understand eating in a theater and being a real cinema man (or real cinema woman) at the same time, but, what kind of real cinema man or woman USES THE BATHROOM DURING THE MOVIE?!?!?!
Hold it. |
Re: Seats in Cinema
Actually, I just remembered that I used the bathroom during the movie last time I went to a theater.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
I only use the bathroom during the movie if the movie sucks.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
When I go to the movies, I like to sit in the very middle of the theater. Dead center. Not too far, not too close. Right in the middle, where I can see the screen perfectly. As centered as I possibly can be.
Sometimes I don't mind sitting (in stadium theaters) in the very back row at the end, up against the wall near the projector, but there can be a stiffness to it that I don't like. However, there is also a feeling of superiority and domination, as if I'm high above everyone else in the theater and more powerful than they. I hate seats WAY up front, practically next to the screen. I forbid it! You have to strain your neck to see it. I don't need to be THAT close to the movie. There needs to be some distance. I also hate sitting on the sides of the theater and I'm not a fan of aisle seats. Dead center. Dead center. Aisle seats are next to the aisle, where people are always walking by you. |
Re: Seats in Cinema
No, it's the other way around, SC. There's no need to eat, but when you gotta go, you gotta go.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
Oh man, I have a reason to go on a movie date with Sexy Celebrity!
I'm also a dead center or as close to it as possible person. I mostly go to movies alone, (though I saw Edge of Tomorrow with my son as a refreshing change of pace) and I always sit middle center. Relating to watching films alone; when I saw Sunshine I was sitting in the middle of the theater alone. There were people there, but not a ton. It was probably 2/3 full. I was sitting in a seat with no one near me for most of the isle. Just as the previews started a man came into the theater, looked around, looked at me and came and sat in the seat right next to mine like he knew me. I was stunned, but I stayed my ground. He wasn't smelly or annoying or a heavy breather or anything like that so I just decided to suck it up because I liked my seat. Then, about 10 minutes in he took a hard candy out of his pocket and stuck it in his mouth. There was no annoying wrapper sound or anything so I still wasn't bothered. About 2 minutes after he put it in his mouth he chewed it up and that I could hear. He did this about every 10-15 minutes during the movie. He was my slightly pleasant, crunchy-candy-mouthed movie buddy for the entire film. It never really bothered me, but I did have to stifle some laughter about the third or fourth time he did it. After the movie he got up and left. It always kind of bothered me though that he sat right next to me in a theater that wasn't really crowded. The only thing I could think was that he wasn't the type to be seen in a theater alone so maybe he would always go to the theater and look for the least imposing guy there and sit with him so he wouldn't look like he was by himself? I don't know, but it still makes me chuckle to this day. |
If it is available, I always sit in the center of the back row. Don't like people talking behind me or hitting the back of my chair, even put their feet up. It also keeps the noise at a minimum, I find.

Re: Seats in Cinema
Bowels? I can't say I've ever gone #2 in the theater bathroom.
I do generally have to make a sprint to restroom as soon as the credits roll though. Between the huge drinks they serve and the fact that they feel the need to crank the air conditioning regardless of the season I nearly always have to pee really bad. |

When I was a little kid, I would always pull my pants and underwear all the way down to my ankles before peeing. That was fine at home, but I quickly learned in school that wasn't the proper protocol. Imagine walking into a public restroom and seeing a man bare-assed at the urinal. :shifty: |

Re: Seats in Cinema
I must always sit in the middle, third row back. I must always have an extra large soft drink. If I must pee, I go in the empty cup. I am hardcore.

Re: Seats in Cinema
I don't care much for food at a theater, but I do like having a drink. Especially at this theater near me that has Grape Mello Yello.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
I remember about ten years ago me and my brother went to the cinema and I ate at huge bag of salted popcorn and a drank monster size coke. We got stuck in traffic on the way home and I very nearly soiled myself. I had super constipation! And what came out of me later that day was truly provocative.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
I near had to pee in my cup when watching TDKR... about half way through the film I was busting for a piss cause I drank too much of my drink while the stupid amount of trailers were being shown.
I actually thought about using my super large coke cup but there were people in my row who would have seen my dinkle. |
Re: Seats in Cinema
Um... No toilets there, Rodent?
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
There are toilets... but I was in the middle of the film...
It was just at the part where Bane and Batpants fight... |
Re: Seats in Cinema
This thread has quickly gotten disgusting.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
That's fitting. Most theaters shouldn't be closely scrutinized. You'll start to notice... things.
|
I may never go to the cinema again.

Re: Seats in Cinema
Wow this became about a lot more then just seats. lol
Food at the movies I generally avoid. If I plan my trip right I will eat a meal before I go to the movies. But if I do get some food at the movies it will generally be a pretzel or popcorn. As for the bathroom, I go to the bathroom right before I sit in the theater. That way I am usually good to sit through the whole movie. |
I don't drink or eat anything in the cinema. I would like to eat popcorn but it tickles my throat and I tend to go into a coughing fit when eating popcorn and that's not good in a cinema screening... :nope:
And I don't drink because of the toilet thing. Drinking and eating is always after. |
Re: Seats in Cinema
For some reason I hate the centre, I don't know why, I always choose one of the seats on the sides, third or fourth row from the top :)
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
In Cineworld and Showcase I always sit to the side in the seats that have the rail in front so I can put my feet up cos I like to slouch. No food for me unless someone else brings peanut M&Ms , and no drinks. I would have a cup of tea if anyone cared to make a decent cinema tea, I'd have cake too in my dream cinema
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
Speaking of tea. You can't even get coffee in the cinemas I got to around here. Very frustrating. I like back aisle for a lot of the reasons already stated. I always let who I am with pick though.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
My dream theater would sell boxes of donuts. Not single donuts you could buy -- BOXES of donuts. Chocolate and powdered.
I imagine the seats would get messy, but it's a dream theater. |

Re: Seats in Cinema
I usually try to go to Cinemark Theatres... I do get a large frozen drink and the smallest bag of popcorn they have but I rarely have to get up in the middle of the film to use the restroom. The kids tend to share a drink and rarely do they go to the cafe in the theatre to get something like french fries..... I pay more for food at the theatre than the prices of the tickets. Cinemark is $4.25 before 6pm and $6.25 after 6pm. AMC is a lot higher.. $5 before noon $7.50 between noon and 4pm and $10.50 after 4pm.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
Jesus. If I could pay those prices I'd probably go to the cinema every week. Well, every week there was something worth seeing, so about twice a year. :D

Re: Seats in Cinema
The absolutely, stone cold cheapest ticket I can get is $10.22. That's on bargin Tuesday. Otherwise it's $14.90 before 5pm and $17.55 after. That doesn't include the extra $3.40 for 3D films or $1.70 glasses (if you forget to bring your own). You can add another 85c if you order the tickets remotely.
There's a reason they call it Ripoff Britain. |
Re: Seats in Cinema
Food is now more expensive where I am.
Tickets used to be over £20 a pop... now they're £10.50p for one of those executive comfy seats... but the food has gone up. Went to see Days Of Future Past... my mate bought the tickets in advance and I got the food on the day. Tickets were £21 for the two of us... food for two, which was... two drinks and 2 tubs of popcorn... £35... |

Re: Seats in Cinema
We have a new cinema opening soon. Great big Cineworld IMAX... and it's being built at the end of my street amongst all the new improvements the council are doing to the area.
The current cinema which is owned by Odeon and run by an independent Manager won't stand a chance once Cineworld move into the area... and the Odeon staff will be out of work... there's no way Cineworld will take on the bunch of Derps that work there. |
Re: Seats in Cinema
Where I am, my nearest Odeon cinema for a normal adult ticket is £6.80/$11.56 before 5pm(£5/$8.50 on Tuesdays). It goes up to £8.40/$14.29 for the after 5pm film showings.
There are also other ones like Cineworld, and they are cheaper than the Odeon cinema. |
Re: Seats in Cinema
Regular seats are £10... used to be anything from £20 to £25 depending on the film...
They've dropped the prices now. £10 for regular, £10.50p for a comfy Superchair. The downside like I said, is that the food prices have gone through the roof. It's as-near-as-makes-no-difference, £9 for a tub of popcorn and £9 for a drink. The cinema is a sh*thole as well. Can't wait for the new IMAX Cineworld to open in a couple months. |
Re: Seats in Cinema
They charge near £15 for a hotdog... and almost the same for a tray of Nachos with grilled cheese on them... their reasoning is because that stuff is "cooked food" and apparently costs more to make.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
This is exactly why I don't use the cinema often. Tickets were extortionate... now the food is instead and the tickets are still pretty steep.
My trips to that particular cinema in the last 20 years are: Jurassic Park in 1993 Star Wars Ep I in 1999 LOTR Two Towers in 2002 TDKR in 2012 Man Of Steel in 2013 Days Of Future Past in a couple weeks ago All my other trips to the movies have been to other cinemas. |

i like sitting towards the middle. its fun to surround yourself with the movie crowd if they actually behave correctly in the theater. it can be a really fun environment if you sit with the right people, especially during funny movies.

I'd also like to mention that I'd need chocolate with coconut donuts, too, in my movie theater box of donuts.

There's a reason they call it Ripoff Britain. Now if you see a film in the XD theatre at Cinemark, its $9.25 before 4pm. Not sure what it is after that time. If you see a film in Real 3D, its higher as well. |

Yeah, I sound a bit weird... Does anyone else do something similar? At Cinemark, you can raise the arm of the chair so that it becomes like a "loveseat" style for couples. When I went to see Godzilla, my daughter saved my chair for me when I went to use the restroom before the film. When I came back a couple were sitting right next to me. The woman kept bumping my arm thru the whole film, plus the b***ch had the nerve to "pop" her chewing gum and got an attitude when I asked her to "please stop". Well for now on, that open seat next to me... the arm of the chair will stay up past the movie previews. NO ONE will sit next to me and ruin my viewing experience. If someone ask me about the "open seat", I will say "Im sorry, Im waiting on a friend." |
One time, I went to see the Jason Statham movie Safe and the most hillbilly, obnoxious family sat right behind us. This lady kept coughing and sneezing and I think at one point when she sneezed I could feel it splash on my neck. They kept kicking my chair making it impossible for me to concentrate and they WOULD NOT SHUT UP. There was a scene where 2 people got put in a trunk together and one of the family members said "hahaha don't fart!" and then every redneck behind us started cackling. I didn't want to say anything because I was scared they would get out a shotgun and kill me. That was probably my worst movie experience.

Re: Seats in Cinema
Somewhere in the middle, or wherever the screen is fully in front of my fave and at not much of an angle.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
Seats: - when ever me and my bro or my friends go to the movies, we always picked the middle seats like a couple of rows away from the screen.
Pee Break: - I only go when I have to really go during the movie that's why I usually go before I enter the theater where the movie is playing. Food/Drink: - I avoid the food at the movies and usually just buy a medium soda. Also I usually go out to eat somewhere else with my bro or friends to have a better meal. |
Re: Seats in Cinema
Always try to sit dead center in the midde. Sometimes a bit back or bit forward depending on the screen size or the particular theater...
I usually never go to the bathroom during a movie. And I rarely bring anything but a bit of water to my movies. I just wanna watch the film. I don’t care about the snacks and all that. And screw those who talk during movies. |
3-D - center
IMAX - aisle far right Big Theater - aisle and I try and stay about 8 seats away from other people The big thing for me is going during "off times" so that you aren't stuck in a crowded theater. I almost got into a fist fight at Widows because I had to change my seat three times and the last guy was just talking to himself. As for food and drink...Reeses and a Water never pay for food unless I have a massive points discount. |
Re: Seats in Cinema
Back left or back right. Sometimes second to last row back left back right. I have seen a few first row but that wasn't by choice rather that was all that was left.
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
I use my rare trips to a theater as an excuse to get movie theater popcorn with butter. But I always hit the restroom right before going in. I HATE having to get up in the middle of an expensive movie just to pee. Where's a pause button when you need one?
|
Re: Seats in Cinema
I don't think I've ever jetted out in the middle of one. Actually once to answer a phone but that's all and that was very recent.
