TSPDT 2018
Probably pretty pointless to make a thread about this since it's such a long list, but i think it's the best list because it's not just one sites opinion but an aggregate of most lists that are released and it's so extensive. It's impossible to copy and paste because of the way it's set up and no way am i typing out a 1000 films so here it is - http://www.theyshootpictures.com/gf1...ilms_table.php

One last thing haha, last years Top 1000 of the 21st Century, i'll add the 2018 one to this thread when it's released at the end of this month - http://www.theyshootpictures.com/21s...ilms_table.php
Personally i find that one more interesting because it changes more and it's generally more well known what the most acclaimed films of all time are. Clearly there's a bias towards earlier films, that's simply because they have been out longer so they've been on more lists. The biggest surprise to me is Brokeback Mountain in the top ten, i knew it was acclaimed but i didn't think that much. Wonder when that top three will finally be broken, they are basically the default best films of the 21st Century at this point. Letterboxd - https://letterboxd.com/peacefulanarc...ont-they-21st/ I've seen 378/1000 Top 50: 01. In The Mood For Love 02. Mulholland Drive 03. Yi Yi 04. There Will Be Blood 05. Cache 06. The Tree of Life 07. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 08. Spirited Away 09. Tropical Malady 10. Brokeback Mountain 11. Werckmeister Harmonies 12. WALL-E 13. Russian Ark 14. City of God 15. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 16. Lost In Translation 17. The Death of Mr. Lazerascu 18. Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives 19. The White Ribbon 20. Dogville 21. The Gleaners & I 22. Tie Xi Qu: West of the Tracks 23. Talk To Her 24. Elephant 25. A Separation 26. No Country For Old Men 27. Punch-Drunk Love 28. The Turin Horse 29. Sideways 30. Melancholia 31. Before Sunset 32. The Lives of Others 33. The Social Network 35. Grizzly Man 36. A History of Violence 37. Zodiac 38. Y Tu Mama Tambien 39. Pan's Labyrinth 40. Inland Empire 41. 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days 42. Memento 43. Amour 44. The Royal Tenenbaums 45. Colossal Youth 46. A.I. Artificial Intelligence 47. Boyhood 48. Silent Light 49. The Hurt Locker 50. Dancer in the Dark |

Just noticed this - http://www.theyshootpictures.com/gf1...ms_sources.htm
That's all of their sources 6,016 individual and 3,801 miscellaneous lists, think that's about as extensive as you can get. Also various links - http://www.theyshootpictures.com/gf1000_links2.htm |
I will probably further check the lists later, but thanks for the compilations.
Numbers: -43 from the top50. -442 from the top1000. -179 from the 1001-2000 positions. -272 from the 20th Century list. Well... not that bad. I'm honestly looking forward a lot to the rest of this huge list, despite the occasional disagreements. As seen from the top250 directors list: Jean Vigo is the biggest bluff to ever be mythicized and I can't help but feel that I should be a lot more offended than I am about Terrence Malick being 44 spots above Hayao Miyazaki. The issue of animation at these lists is so much of a dead horse that I'm starting to accept it but there is not a single one in the top200, 15 in the top1000, 38 in the entirety of the top2000. And 39 in the top1000 of the 20th Century may look more reasonable but it's still a very ridiculous amount for how culturally relevant this side of the industry has become. Whatever, it looks cool and solid and there's so much stuff I want to watch. |
