Movie Anomalies By Directors?

Richard Brooks "Looking For Mr. Goodbar" - it was so dark and dirty (and didn't like it)

If I hadn't seen the credits, I would have never though it was him, the man who did "Elmer Gantry", "The Professionals", "The Happy-Ending", etc...

I was wondering which was the bigger anomaly for Lynch, that or Dune (but then if there was more than one then it wouldn't be an anomaly). Like I thought about referring to Starman as the biggest anomaly in John Carpenter's filmography since it's the Master of Horror doing a romance but then I realised that also describes Memoirs of an Invisible Man.

I guess Hugo counts as one for Scorsese since it's basically him making a kids' movie for once.
