So I found this Wordle-alike game a couple weeks ago and, I gotta say, it’s pretty fun. Each day has you try to figure out what the top five movies were at a different past weekend at the box office. Each movie is initially worth 200 points, but you can lower the point value by “buying” hints (e.g., movie tagline, director’s name, actors’ names, plot description, etc…). You get 10 guesses to figure them all out, with each unused guess giving you additional bonus points.
So for today, I got: July 22, 2005 ✅ 200 ✅ 120 ✅ 160 ✅ 200 ✅ 160 ➕ 200 🏆 1040 If anybody else in interested in playing it, it lives at boxofficega.me. |

So I always knew that Titanic was in theaters forever, but this game is how I found out that Good Will Hunting was still in the top five grossing movies in March of 1998! Looking it up after the fact, apparently its theatrical run was basically five full months long. Must have been nice when movies were allowed to have such ling legs.
February 14, 2014 ✅ 200 ❌ 0 ✅ 55 ✅ 160 ❌ 0 ➕ 0 🏆 415 Today really threw my for a loop. The tagline for #3 really had me chasing the wrong kind of movie and I guessed two wrong 2014 movies starring #2’s lead actor before I had to take the “L” for the day. |

✅ 120 ✅ 200 ✅ 160 ❌ 0 ✅ 80 ➕0 🏆 540 I’m still kind of miffed that #4 wasn’t The Tale of Despereaux and that #5 wasn’t Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist. |

Man, the 80’s are so much harder to figure out than the other decades. Then again, since I wasn’t stirring in the cultural soup back then (I was definitely a late 80’s baby), I guess it makes sense that a couple random buddy comedies would slip my attention.
