"Guillermo del Toro was at one point attached to direct a feature film adaptation of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark for CBS Films, but those plans have since changed as Deadline reports tonight that André Øvredal, the Norwegian filmmaker behind must-watch films Trollhunter and The Autopsy of Jane Doe, is now at the helm!

“The thriller follows a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and macabre deaths in their small town.”

Production will begin next Summer on the film, based on artist Alvin Schwartz’s three-book series, released between 1981 and 1991.

Kevin Hageman and Dan Hageman (The LEGO Movie) wrote the script.

Øvredal will produce with Sean Daniel, Jason Brown and Elizabeth Grave."

Loved the books as a kid. They were our way of telling who was cool and who was not. If you chose Goosebumps because the covers scared you, you weren’t cool.

What a brilliant sketch. I would have loved that as a kid.

I had this book growing up, and it was horrifying. The art had a lot to do with it:

I saw a message board thread a few months ago which was stuff that traumatized you as a child and most of the people around your age went on about the artwork in that book, haha. There was an overweight female ghost that looked particularly horrifying, wish i owned it as a kid.

Yeah, there's one story in particular about a first floor bedroom window that I still think about sometimes.

The movie will probably suck because it's 2018 and every movie does now.

Never read the books but I love the artwork. Highly doubt the film will come even close to the wonderful atmosphere and mood that the pictures give off.
