Re: Historical Movies
A Dangerous Method? Seriously? :D O hope you liked it only because of Fassbender :D
|
Re: Historical Movies
How are we defining "historical"? I mean, is historical accuracy of much import or do any period pieces count?
|
Re: Historical Movies
It appears to be the latter.

One of my all time favourites is Cromwell. Richard Harris is excellent as the title character.
|
Well, if we take accuracy and throw it out the window, my favorites are:
Army of Darkness :D Brotherhood of the Wolf Casualties of War Cold Mountain Dances With Wolves Demetrius and the Gladiators Django Unchained Gladiator Glory Gods and Monsters The Help Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Inglourious Basterds Interview With the Vampire Inventing the Abbotts Kinsey L.A. Confidential The Last Samurai A League of Their Own The Libertine Milk Now and Then Of Mice and Men (Sinise, 1992) Open Range A Perfect World The Quick and the Dead (Raimi, 1995) Quills * The Raven The Reader The Reckoning The Robe Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves The Sandlot Schindler's List School Ties Silverado Sleepy Hollow 3:10 to Yuma (Mangold, 2007) Tombstone Tuck Everlasting (Russell, 2002) Walk The Line Zodiac *If you watch only one of these movies, watch this one. ETA: Mr. Minio - Since when does pornography qualify as "essential drama"? |

No.
(But not Caligula, apparently. That's essential.) |
Re: Historical Movies
I haven't seen it, but seeing it's your favourite movie I wanted to piss you off. :)

Re: Historical Movies
Yes, it's my favorite movie. But regardless of what you might think of me, you should consider the fact that it made both the 2010 MoFo Top 100 of All Time and the MoFo Millennium Top 100 lists.
If I recall correctly, even wintertriangles - who almost never sees eye to eye with me on films (or most things, really) - voted for it in the Millennium list. |
Re: Historical Movies
Why are you even trying to justify your taste? It's all up to you what movies you like. I was just teasing you. :)
|
Re: Historical Movies
I'm not justifying anything. I'm telling you it's a great movie and that you should watch it.
|
Re: Historical Movies
To me great movies are the ones I like the most, not the ones that appear on some lists, but yeah I see what are you hinting at and maybe I will watch it some time in the future.
|
Re: Historical Movies
I mentioned the lists only to show that I'm not the only MoFo who appreciates the film. As it's pretty apparent that you and I have dissimilar tastes.
And I do like it the most, which is why it's my favorite and has held that position for at least a dozen years. |
Re: Historical Movies
Some more I liked :
Hotel Rwanda. Lone Star. The Man Who Would be King. The Vikings. Spartacus. |
My favorite historical movies from the top of my head:
Aguirre: The Wrath of God (1972) The Battle of Algiers (1966) The Thin Red Line (1998) Come and See (1985) Battleship Potemkin (1925) The Great Escape (1963) Paths of Glory (1957) Lawrence of Arabia (1962) Alexander Nevsky (1938) |
