He wrote the lyrics for West Side Story and Gypsy. He wrote the music and lyrics for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Anyone
Can Whistle, Company, A Little Night Music, Follies, Pacific Overtures, Assassins, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, and Sunday in the Park with George. He co-wrote the screenplay for The Last of Sheila and won an Oscar for writing "Sooner or Later" for the Warren Beatty comic book classic Dick Tracy. Arguably, the finest Broadway composer in history, the legendary Stephen Sondheim passed away at his Connecticut home this morning at the age of 91. Pretty sure Broadway will be dark tonight in his honor. Broadway's greatest loss.

He was a Broadway legend.
