Incidentally what are the picture transfers like on those fifty movie boxsets? |
Re: honeykid's DVD Collection
The transfers vary quite a bit UF, but there's quite a few poor ones. Nothing bad enough to stop me watching them though, but then, I can remember peering through snowstorms in the early 80's, watching pirate VHS copies of whatever was going. :D
|
Sick collection, man.:)
Question: Do you actually like all of the films on that list or are there a few DVDs you could do without? I ask because i've noticed you don't have popular DVDs such a The Matrix and The Dark Knight - two films you were slightly critical of in my list. Also surprised to see My So Called Life there. I didn't think anybody watched that show! Ain't watched it in years. I wonder if it'll hold up today. |

I didn't think anybody watched that show! Ain't watched it in years. I wonder if it'll hold up today. Was I that critical of The Matrix and The Dark Knight? I know that I think The Matrix is fairly average (barring the obvious) and I don't agree that Heath Ledger deserved all the praise for his performance of The Joker, but I don't remember being critical of either film. Maybe I was critical of their position on your list? I honestly don't remember. If I don't have a popular dvd it's usually because I don't want it or didn't like it, (this is where a few of my friends would start calling me a "film nazi") though there are exceptions. Sin City for one. A return question for you Pres. Why did you ask that question? It seems to me that the question has no relation to the Matrix/Dark Knight mentions. I loved MSCL, that's when I fell for Claire Danes. UF, I think you can download some/many/all of the films on those boxsets free at those legal download sites. If not, you can get them from this site, though you might find it cheaper elsewhere. http://www.cduniverse.com/productinf...75&style=movie |
I'm like a brawler in that I throw punches in bunches sometimes. Sometimes I ask questions to ensure that I made sure i've asked them because I know I will forget to ask for a long time so that's why I asked those questions and why they may appear random and may not necessarily relate to each other. :p
So you're a prime collector. I dunno, I used to just collect myself and be random..now all I do is get films that I already like. Thanks for the tip with cduniverse in all, mate. Might have to check that out. Also I don't do downloads anymore. It's my 'code' to the film industry ;) And yeah, I didn't mean to suggest you were overly critical of the films, but out of most of the films on my list you those got the most criticisms. I can accept that and that's cool. Still think that Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker is iconic. You have to take into account that this is the first time since an actor has tackled a live version of the character since Jack 'show stealer' Nicholson. And i'm sorry, but to almost eradicate memories of what is a seemingly impossible performance to top makes me think that Ledger deserved all the praise and then some. He made the role his own and refused to fall into the easy temptation of doing a Jacko Nicko. I'll tell you what you need to do, Honeykid, you need to post a Top 100. That's what i'm waiting for. I know you've said in the past that it will be too difficult for you to go there, but I think I speak for the majority of the board when I say that your list would be intriguing. I have a good idea of what films would make your list due to your response to mine, but the writing is not yet on the wall, baby. |
Excuse my ignorance, but what's a "prime collector"?
Also, those downloads are legal. The films have entered public ownership, or whatever it's called. As for my top 100. I have tried to work at it and, at last count, I was at about 180. The problem is that, to get a fair representation of what my top 100 is now, I need to rewatch a lot of films. That, and I need to cut another 80 films or so before I get around to arranging the rest in the 'right' order. Not sure the rest of the site would regard seeing my list as "intriguing" either. :D Nevertheless, I am at least thinking about it now. Keep the faith. |

Re: honeykid's DVD Collection
Surely the top 10 is the hardest part isn't it?

Indeed it is. Still haven't figured out mine yet. I feel your pain though, Honeykid. Conducting my list was near excruciating and it seems like you are going to wrestle hard to get the films you love in the right order. My best advice is if/when you do get round to doing it, take your time and go at your own pace. Good to know that you are at least thinking about it though. 'Prime collector' is something I kinda made up, lmao. It's supposed to mean somebody who loves collecting everything and anything they are interested in, even if the quality ain't up to scratch. Ignore it and think of it as a prestigaism. :D |

Would someone who collected Transformers memorabilia, be an Optimus Prime Collector? :D |
