For me because it was the last great year for movies in the 80's in abundance.

EDIT: I say "in abundance" because, though there were still great movies in '88 and '89, there weren't as many...seemingly.

I could be wrong.

EDIT PART II: Also, this isn't supposed to be commercial releases only...damnit, the more I think about this thread, the more incriminating it becomes. Anything from 1987: go!

87 was a fantastic year for movies. It nearly takes up an entire shelf of its own on my bookcase, which is unprecedented (and certainly wouldn't happen today!:D)

The only way it could happen today is if your taste in movies was...how you say?...dish?....rag??

I agree. There was something very adventurous about 1987. To me it seemed like the rough part of the 80's was coming into a glossier aesthetic, but still not completely in 1987, and that in between point was really a spectacle. Wild stuff. Like a year or two later, a lot more mainstream films actually had a bad odor...but 1987 still smelled good, if that makes sense...and it was pushing some boundaries.

I don't remember now exactly what came out that year, but I remember back when I was making a list of favorites that I marked down more from that year than any other. I was 16 then, a nice age to be.

Joel 09-01-17 10:46 PM

I was 11...no pousious yet, but at least great movies
