Its a Sony 44" rear projection, Can't remember the model number off the top of my head, I've had it about 4-5 years.

The picture is great, it has quite a wide veiwing angle aswell, so you dont have to sit directly on front of it, I haven't had any problems with it in the 4-5 years i've had it and it cost me about £2300 ($4452).

JBriscoe 03-14-07 07:28 PM

Re: The MoFo DVD Collection Photo Thread

I've have a Panasonic 46" rear projection...its about 13 years old, so the picture is alright at best...but it was a free hand me down from my dad when he upgraded his to a 60" LCD, so Im not complaining!

My collection is impressive - but doesn't look it. Not an exciting photo. I have almost 1,000 movies right now. But, I keep them in 4 big black binders that each hold 250 dvds. I keep track of them using http://moviecollectorplus.com which is fast and really easy.

Here's how I do it:
I add my movies - it numbers them.
I write the number on my disc with a sharpie to make putting away easy.
It all synchs up AND makes it all very impressive :D don't you think?

Another key element to the impressive nature of it all is my index. I print an alphabetical list and a list in the order I got them (old to new). So, when we want a movie, we grab the lists. The movie ID numbers are beside the titles and easy to find in the binders. How long does it take you to find your movie? ;)

When you have your collection online at moviecollectorplus.com, you can invite anyone with an email to see your collection. If they also have collections, you can compare to see what they have that you don't. So, when I'm looking for a few new movies, I compare all my friends movies, make requests, and grow my collection a little more.

So, if you want to see a picture of my MoFo binders - I'll do it! :D But, isn't that all impressive? Come on!

Well, when you search for a movie title - you get that movie, not the widescreen version, fullscreen version, special edition, director's cut, etc. You know what I mean? Sometimes I have seen two - didn't look into it, though. It might have been a high def version. I can see them being seperate. Not sure on that.

However, I do know that you can submit movies yourself. I've had to do that... it's easy and they do everything else for you. So, maybe if you submitted the Blu-Ray version UPC or put "Blu-Ray" in the synopsis, that should do it.

It is far from technical. I can see how it sounds that way, though. My friends are a bit confused until they see it. But, I've converted everyone I know to storing their movies in binders by number. It really is the easiest most logical way.

I used to put my movies into an excel file when I got them. But, once I got in the 400s, it was becoming too hard to find my movie. Since the movies were already numbered, I wrote the numbers on the discs and everything fell into place.

If I want to watch "Running Scared" I can look for the title in my alphabetical list or search my collection on http://www.moviecollectorplus.com and then I know that movie is number 725 and I grab my binder and get number 725.

Does that sound less technical? ;) I think of it as logical and simplified.

But... maybe I should upload some pictures. ;)

I had to register to say THANK YOU, klanely.

I loved your method to organize movies. I also created a Movie Collector Plus account and added my movies. Really nice find.

Re: The MoFo DVD Collection Photo Thread

You can only really see it from my arm up, but there's more there, plus I've added some since then, dedicating yet another shelf to hold my DVD's.

They're stacked in back-to-front, so there's more that are hidden behind those that are in the picture, and there's also some more up top which the camera couldn't take.

For the record, the black and purple DVD box sets that are in the middle of the picture is every episode of the original Twilight Zone. It's worth a lot, both in value and to me.

Re: The MoFo DVD Collection Photo Thread

My personal DVD collection (my family owns a good amount) consists of just 6 movies... I just got into movies about a year ago and just started buying about 2 months ago. Also, I'm only 16 and don't have any steady income so I buy them with whatever cash I can get haha. But what my collection lacks in quantity it makes up with quality (mostly).

Taxi Driver (2-disc Special Edition)
Seven Samurai (3-disc Criterion Collection)
Platoon (20th Anniversery Special Edition)
Blade Runner: The Final Cut (Special Edition)
Raging Bull (I bought the single disc version in ignorance that there was a special edition, oh well :( )
Master and Commander (5 bucks in a bargain bin :D )

His parents buy Movieman (most of) his movies, mark, and that's what I put virtually most of my "extra" spending money toward: DVDs and Blu-rays. I buy the occasional book or new clothes, but as I've said before, just about every post you see by me in the Movie Tab thread is of a movie (or movies) that I own. I don't rent and/or download, etc.

Especially if you run into a good sale (or other type of deal), more special features and a nicer box are always nice for a few more dollars. But in a lot of cases, I agree, Swan. :)

Film Addict you should post a pic of your collection :yup: I also like looking at other people's collection's.

I buy dvds mostly cheap in shop's, small bundles from the newspaper or ebay and carboot sales. There are afew times I have picked up a new dvd and it turns out to be rubbish but I still keep it as I may re-watch it sometime or not  When I buy dvd's from Carboot sales I only choose the one's that I want and you can get some very good deals. But with the bundles that I have bought I sometimes get a few that I dislike but I havent had a bundle for years.

There are a few gaps where I've either lent DVDs to someone or taken them out and haven't put them back in. The ones on the far right in the second photo are the newer additions to my collection. I'm waiting until the racks actually get full before I put them all into alphabetical order.

They're way to bright, I know, but the cam on my laptop isn't that great. It's a work in progress but I'm pretty proud of it. It's grown by 5-7 DVD's since I took these and I'm hoping to fill the last room soon. I have this idea of putting shelves up above the TV and fill those to or maybe just display my top ten. Oh and I painted the red plate behind the case myself. That's why I've referred to it as semi-customed. :p

Re: The MoFo DVD Collection Photo Thread

Man I wish that guy who numbered his DVDs would still be active on this cause I have a question.

Okay in your system lets say you have 7 movies. You put 'em in and the numbers run like so:

1. XXXXXX
2. XXXXXX
3. XXXXXX
4. The Godfather
5. Goodfellas
6. XXXXXX
7. XXXXXX

So then you get out your trusty sharpie and number away...

Well, what happens when you get The Godfather: Part II for Christmas? It becomes number 5 and throws your whole list off. What do you go back with your sharpie and re-number everything?

TheUsualSuspect 06-17-09 06:25 PM
