I remember him from The Love Boat.

He was good on the Mary Tyler Moore show, but he really got to shine as Captain of the Pacific Princess.

Very sad. This is the first I've heard that he passed away. Loved him in everything he was in. The Mary Tyler Moore Show was probably my favorite performance of his. Godspeed, Gavin.

This one isn't really surprising, but still very sad...such an impressive television career. He's best known as Captain Stuebing on The Love Boat, but my favorite role of his was as Murray Slaughter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, the only guy in the newsroom who could put Sue Ann Nivens in her place, but was never quite able to act on his unrequited crush on Mary Richards...a rich character who was more complicated than people knew because MacLeod played it so flawlessly. RIP.
