It could be because im a vampire but i love movies set at night. Can you recommend some films that predominantly take place at night.

i only have a few
Blade runner (1982)
Bringing out the dead (1999)
Night on earth (1991)
Dark city (1998)

Dark City isn’t quite night, though, right?
Nightcrawler, if I remember correctly.

In Dark City, it's always dark, because it's set on a "world" that's way out in space, with humans being manipulated by ET's that don't understand humans. I guess, in that sense, dark isn't the same thing as night, which implies a rotating planet that faces a star.

It seems to be night during most of the running time of Glengarry Glen Ross

Im comfortable with a planet with no sun as being called night. If the sun went out on earth id consider it permanent night.

Can we maybe spoiler text this for people who have not seen the film?

A Night to Remember
Blade Runner

30 Days of Night is a fun movie, adapted from an odd graphic novel, about a bunch of vampires suddenly realizing that there's some nice opportunities to seek near the arctic circle.

Elevator to the Gallows also takes place during the course of a (normal length) night. It's about a murderer stuck in an elevator, while his girlfriend roams the street of Paris.

Also, not that it matters much for a movie set in interiors, but Aliens mostly takes place at night. Mostly.

As for the prompt itself, a significant amount of Good Time takes place at night.

The recent horror VFW.

Just about any film noir done in the '40s and '50s. IMDB has a list.

Many are available on YouTube.

In fact most vampire movies would qualify. Their days tend to last ten minutes. To be fair, it's less artificial when the story only follows the nocturnal creatures. Thinking What we do in the Shadows or Only Lovers left Alive, there.

I have the strange impression that most french crime/spy movies from the 60s to the 80s take place at night (Melville stuff, or non-comedies with Lino Ventura). They evoke dark, wet pavements with light reflections. But I don't fully trust myself on this : I'm also under the impression that all Melville movies are in black and white even when they're in colors, so it may be the same effect.

[Edit : GulfportDoc makes roughly the same point about the US 50s/60s, so, yeah]

The Warriors takes place during one night, doesn't it ? Some movies about ruthless chases take place during the night. Jean-Pierre Mocky's Kill the Referee (where a bunch of murderous supporters chase down an unlucky football referee) does, if I'm not mistaken. There's also a lot of movies about odysseys through Paris's nightlife. Leos Carax stuff, maybe. But Autant-Lara's The Crossing of Paris is precisely an odyssey through Paris's night, during the nazi occupation.

And both Cuisine et Dépendance and Un air de famille take place during one long evening. As they happen to rank among the ten best movies ever made in the history of everything and beyond, maybe they're worth mentioning here.

Then there's also Goretta's If the Sun Never Returns, adapted from Ramuz' novel, about a mountain village that stays in the shadows for months and wonders if it will last forever that time. And several supernatural thrillers where people seem stuck in eternal nights. The first two Evil Dead toy with that, and a lot of ghost movies lock their protagonists in a nocturnal time loop or some forever night (stuff like Grave Encounters or 1408 but also quality films like The Others and whatnot).

Also Scare Me, The Invitation and Coherence are three very different (and actually very good) recent films about evenings turning into nights or worse. Heck, you can throw Krampus in the lot, for the lolz. Let's go nuts : Trollhunter was pretty nocturnal as well, for obvious mythological reasons. And Don't Breathe is just one night in a blind man's house (yay, double dark).

Now, if you're really, really adverse to any form of light or visibility, there's also the 2014 Godzilla. It's essentially sounds and noises. But at this point, you're better off with a podcast.

Okay, someone else just mentioned it. But I'm still gonna say it: The Invitation.

And while I didn't super care for it, Bad Night at the El Royale.

Re: Movies predominetly set at night

There are movies that are merely set at night an movies where night is basically a character or alternate world that overtakes the mundane world of the day. 1985's After Hours is such a film. Griffin Dunne is not "cured" by a Magic Pixie Dream Girl, but rather "carried away" by the pixie dust of the night itself - an adventure which beckons but also threatens.

The Nightmare Sisters look like the groupies of some big hair band.

Evil Dead is mostly at night, right?
