(Small Domestic Gods) Political 1973 song against Fascism

Hi,

The author Manuel Freire faced great danger of torture and death, when he recorded this song in 1973.

In 1973, Portugal still had the Fascist regime of Hitler, Mussolini, Franco and Salazar. Because Portugal and Spain were neutral in the Second World War, those true Fascist regimes never collapsed, and were allowed by the Soviets and NATO to continue torturing it's citizens, long after WW II.

Here is a poetic song written under censorship, where the author compares the portuguese fascist regime to the medieval christian kingdoms of the Iberian Peninsula.

I translated and subtitled the lyrics to english, because I want to share this song and it's history.

The original 1973 portuguese title of the song is "Pequenos Deuses Caseiros".
