"Warner Bros. is planning a gender-bent adaptation of the iconic William Golding novel Lord of the Flies.

Scott McGehee and David Siegel will write and direct the new take on the story, which follows a group of young boarding school students that end up stranded on an island and devolve into pre-pubescent savages over the course of the novel. Harry Hook directed a 1990 version of the story, while a 1963 feature was helmed by Peter Brook.

Siegel and McGehee last directed the 2012 drama What Maisie Knew, starring Julianne Moore and Alexander Skarsgard. They are repped by ICM and Nelson Davis.

Lord of the Flies is the latest addition to Hollywood's gender-bending remake streak. Other installments include Splash starring Channing Tatum, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at MGM and an role-swapping Overboard reboot, as well as the upcoming Ocean's 8 movie."

"Call Me by Your Name director Luca Guadagnino has found his next project with Warner Bros.' adaptation of Lord of the Flies.

Guadagnino is in talks to helm the adaptation of William Golding's classic 1954 novel that centers on a group of young male boarding school students that end up stranded on an island and devolve into savages.

Known Universe, the production company founded by tentpole writers Lindsey Beer, Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Nicole Perlman, is in talks to executive produce. If the deals are made, Guadagnino and his producing partner Marco Morabito will produce the movie.

The studio previously announced a genderbent Lord of the Flies adaptation in 2017, with Scott McGehee and David Siegel attached to pen and direct. The effort was criticized for putting a male writing-directing team at the helm of what was being billed as a female-fronted project.

Guadagnino's adaptation will follow more closely to Golding's text, once again centering on a group of school boys."

Is this gender reversal of Lord of the Flies suppose to be set in modern times? Because if so, you could find all the kids with a satellite nowadays I'm guessing.

Well it seems like they are going to try and salvage this product with Luca Guadagnino and if this means Sayombhu Mukdeeprom will follow him as the cinematographer than the movie will look like a classic.



The issue really comes down to the writers, while they aren't terrible they did work together with Captain Marvel and I was not impressed with the female characters in that film.

Tokenistic nonsense IMHO, as if a handful of designated "female fronted projects" counter much more deeply ingrained sexism when it comes to directors getting a shot at larger projects. The idea that one sex/race/etc has nothing interesting to say about others is quite obviously nonsense as well.

I'm guessing they probably got cold feet at the idea of a female Lord of the Flies not going down very well politically either given that would paint a lot of the characters involved in a negative fashion.
