The Hall of Infamy

2 Attachment(s)

Welcome to the Hall of Infamy!

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING

1. The goal of this Hall is not to nominate movies which you think the participants will enjoy, but to nominate movies which you think everyone will despise. Whether it be one of your lowest rated films ever, something commonly considered to be one of the worst films of all time, or even a well-received film you despise, everything is welcomed here.

2. There are no restrictions on what movies you're allowed to nominate, aside from films which have already won Halls being excluded (I doubt that will be an issue though for obvious reasons). Even movies which aren't commonly considered to be bad films are allowed, provided you dislike the film enough. For instance, if you think Citizen Kane is crap and want to nominate that film, go right ahead by all means.

3. Normally, nominations have to be shorter than 4 hours to be eligible for Halls, but since some people may be hesitant to watch a 4-hour bad movie, make sure your nomination is under 2.5 hours.

4. Contrary to a traditional Hall of Fame, you're going to rank the films in this Hall from least favorite to favorite, meaning your least favorite film will be #1 on your ballot, your second least favorite film will be #2 on your ballot, your third least favorite film will be #3 on your ballot, and so on and so forth (your favorite film will actually be last place on your ballot).

i'm in <3
the films i dislike the absolute most won't do well in this particular hall so i'm going with my least favourite film that still feels like some bullshit you'd expect me to nominate for a regular hall lmao.

Your nomination doesn't look like it will be too bad, tbh, but I have a feeling I'll be proven wrong.

As an aside, I haven't seen my nomination before, but it's one I've been meaning to check out for a while, so I'm curious as to how bad it will be.

Citizen Rules 06-18-22 02:06 PM

 for doing this Hall. It should be interesting and fun! But I think I'll wait until after the reveal to see if I want to join or not. If I do join I have a crummy B movie that's like an hour long, easy watch with a $100 budget:p

SpelingError 06-18-22 02:15 PM

I'll reveal the nominations on June 25th. After that, you'll all have one week left to join this Hall.

Allaby 06-18-22 02:26 PM

Sounds terrible! I love it! I’m in!

Yeah, I'm trying to decide if I should go with a blind nom that I've heard is trash through word of mouth, or go with something I've already seen.

Wouldn't want to accidentally nominate something that's in the "so bad it's good" category haha.

To my understanding, my nomination isn't supposed to be so-bad-it's good, but just plain bad.

Perhaps, but I don't think there's ever been a Hall devoted to that, so I figured I'd start one.

PHOENIX74 06-18-22 11:24 PM

I'm totally in. I think the whole Hall of Infamy concept is awesome and I'm glad I arrived here in time to participate from it's inception.

gbgoodies 06-18-22 11:41 PM

If you really want to make this HoF fun, someone should try to convince Miss Vicky to join it. The best part of the HoF could be reading her reviews for these movies.

So for me this would be like just about every HOF I've been in as far as having to watch awful movies, only with the possibility of actually liking one or two all but completely removed.

I'm probably going to have to say no to that.

Re: The Hall of Infamy

ok so since the current regular hall had some controversy over nominations with triggering elements i would like to mention that the film i picked for this hall might also be in that same boat. i'm foggy on the details but it might be some not-safe-for-life type shit lol. i'll probably watch it shortly before the hall starts and give an updated content warning and maybe switch out the pick if need be. don't want to pressure anyone into watching something that will really upset them.

Takoma11 06-19-22 11:48 PM

I'm going to wait for the reveals on this one. Since I'm a delicate little blossom, I don't want to be a spoil sport. So if the movies are just bad, I'll be in. If I think they'd be bad for my soul, I'll just watch this one from the sidelines.

Either way, fun idea for a HoF!

CosmicRunaway 06-20-22 03:53 PM

Decided to preemptively write something about my own nomination, and it's just so dull I don't really have much to say about it haha. I have a feeling that my reviews for this Hall might be significantly shorter than usual.

I'm the opposite as I find it easier to review films I dislike than movies I like.

I'm a little worried that regret will set in once I have to start watching the other films, but for now I'm still excited for this Hall and glad to see more people joining in on the mutual suffering!

Sometimes I even have a hard time finding something to write about films I do like. I think the worst might be when a film has literally no impact on me though, since what do you even focus on then?

I eventually did manage to make a typical-length review for me, but for the last paragraph I did resort to complaining about having nothing to say because the film is so bland.

John Dumbear 06-20-22 07:34 PM

Will not participate, but will pay attention. In hope of being directed to an absurd selection.

This is the one Hall where I'll be disappointed if you like my nomination.

Little Ash 06-20-22 08:39 PM

Re: The Hall of Infamy

I'm not in because I don't have enough time to watch my own shitty movies, let alone watch and review other people's movie choices. However, asking out of curiosity, are there no restrictions on the type of movie? Because the first movie that came to my mind happened to be porn.

Also, you lot should have told Miss Vicky you'd make an exception for her, where she just simply had to review based on, "at what point did you stop watching?"

ETA: "shitty" isn't censored out, but godammit is?
ETAA: Not godammit isn't... How did I trigger that before? Oh well.

To my understanding, there aren't any restrictions to these Halls per se, but there's recently been some backlash in a couple other threads over disturbing films being nominated, so I don't know how much longer we'll be able to keep nominating films with that type of content (I'm fine with watching pretty much everything though).

I don't think porn/excessive nudity has ever caused problems in any of the Halls I've been in. Then again, I can't recall anyone ever nominating a porno. It's probably because Rock hasn't joined these threads yet.

edarsenal 06-20-22 09:07 PM

This should be a riot reading the reviews, ENJO -- oh, wait, have a really really really BAD time, EVERYONE!! :D

I think that these halls are an interesting exercise in a group deciding on their own norms. Because you can't just say "nothing upsetting" or "nothing too sexual" or "nothing too violent," because everyone draws those lines in a different place.

The restrictions just come down to what the group in the hall is comfortable with, and I think that people generally try to be sensitive to each others' boundaries. (Though admittedly that's easier in the personal recommendation halls, where you are actually picking a film for one person and not a group).

I mean, I'd rather watch (certain) porn than watch the Hong Kong film I started last year where several animals were tortured and killed on screen. (And thankfully I bailed out before I had to actually watch any of it).

A move that's sure to get rid of that pesky "arguments about the content" problem.

Yeah, my nomination for The Painted Bird got shit trashed in the 28th. It's 7.5/10 on Imdb and 82% on Rotten Tomatoes. So I guess every critic who reviewed it had no morals and was a sick mf.

While I didn't enjoy the film, I don't think it went too far in terms of violence/disturbing content. I also don't think less of anyone who enjoyed the film. I was mainly just left cold by it for the reasons I brought up in my review.

Max runtime is lower for this Hall, so technically you couldn't have.

Not sure what it says about my tastes, but that legit looks like something I'd watch. My standards when it comes to fantasy films are very very low haha.

I think you're about two or three "verys" short of where you need to be for this film.

ok so i rewatched my pick and i feel fine nominating it as long as everyone here is ok with, umm, fluids. its gross and violent but i don't personally think it goes too too far but there is depictions of child abuse (one scene) that i didn't find to be too visceral or anything but someone more sensitive to those themes might find it upsetting.

I mean, it did manage to get a 5.3/10 rating, so it can't be that bad. Then again, some of Neil Breen's films are dangerously close to a 5 as well haha.

If anyone's curious, my nomination currently has a 2.1/10, and I considered two films that each had a 1.6/10, but they also had "so bad it's hilarious" vibes going so I passed on them

I'm not sure if I will be joining but if I do my nom has a 2.7 rating at IMDB.

I'm interested in seeing the noms but definitely not joining. Lol I want to see how bad they are.

I've seen 31 films that have a rating of 4.6. My personal rating for those films ranges from a 2/10 to an 8/10.

I don't think I have seen any of the films currently rated a 2.1.

Also, this is just a reminder that I'll reveal the nominations in two days.

Supposedly Howard The Duck is considered a bad film. Well I think millions of men between ages 60 to 45 will tell you it's not because of this scene . 😀

Without giving too much away, mine's not bad in an exploitative manner, or even a failure on a technical level.

It is, however, fundamentally flawed in its conception, and criminally boring. It's a complete waste of time, which is what I despise most in bad entertainment.

Same. Mine has an IMDb rating in the upper 4s. It's just so . . . bad.

Like, I have watched Jurassic Shark, which has a 1.4 on IMDb. But also, I laughed my way through a lot of it. I gleaned some pleasure and enjoyment from it. Plus it's one of those sort of "maybe we're being intentionally bad!" movies.

Ludicrously bad CGI, cringe performances---at some point these things circle around to being captivating in their own way.

If I turn on a film, by the first 10 to 15 minutes I can tell its crap, I turn it off. I can't waste my time with a terrible film.

MovieGal 06-23-22 04:56 PM

The only film I consider terrible but is a great fun watch is The People Under The Stairs. It's so bad, it's good.

I picked something I've heard about for a while but haven't gotten around to yet.

Re: The Hall of Infamy

I've seen more than 100 movies I'd give 1 star or less, so I had a big selection. And no, my choice was not from MST3K, although I would'nt be surprised if Manos was nominated, in which case, I admit my choice has some competition.

Actually, now that I think about it, my choice is a little on the obscure side. I should've went with Reanimated from 2006, which took an excellent premise for a kid's show and ruined everything about it.

Re: The Hall of Infamy

i only really had 2 somewhat interesting options. i haven't given out a ton 1 star or less ratings and the one's i have are mostly films people like lol.

Takoma11 06-23-22 05:30 PM

I've only seen one film all the way through that I rated a 1/10, and it's not something I'd want to subject other people to, mainly because of the nature of the content.

I'm struggling to fulfill my obligations in the Short Film Hall of Fame, and some of those are literally 6 minutes long, so I'll be watching this from the sidelines, but with much interest. Expect lots of commentary from this peanut gallery. :)

First heard about mine years ago from a web series that showcases bad movies. They usually have some fun with the films because they're so awful they're entertaining, but this was one that was just bad.

Is it the quality of the short films, or some of the subject matter, or just the time needed to watch them...that's a struggle for you? Just curious:p
