John Ford

What's everyones favorites from John Ford. For me, it's got to be The Grapes of Wrath, such a terrificly made film.

Re: John Ford

This will take longer than William Wyler because John Ford made more films, but that also means he made more fair-to-average films. I go well against the grain by calling The Quiet Man his best, but it's an easy pick for me. Then, I'd go with The Searchers, The Grapes of Wrath and How Green Was My Valley. Yeah, I know, you don't like the last one but I love it. Maybe I'll come back with a big old list with ratings which nobody wants to see.

Re: John Ford

I go with one of his lesser known movies, The Lost Patrol.

Re: John Ford

The Searchers. It's possibly the best John Wayne film, outside of McLintock.

Re: John Ford

McClintock is John Wayne's best western???

Wouldn't even be in my top ten list.

Re: John Ford

No, McLintock is nowhere near his best western, I just enjoy it quite a bit. It could be considered a guilty pleasure, but I just love that movie.

I'm an ignorant arthouse bulb, so I haven't seen any John Ford film yet. I assume you more or less know my movie taste. What movie do you think would be the best one to watch for me? I'm not even asking about your favorite, just Ford film you think I would enjoy the most.

Re: John Ford

Probably The Grapes of Wrath. Also The Long Voyage Home and The Informer. If you like those, you can try his many westerns.
